       SuKi took it off (again)
By: Nikola Date: August 17, 2019, 3:50 am

       Let's get one thing straight:
Why was SuKi asked to take the kettle off, after Polly had
kindly put it on? It doesn't make any sense to me because we
were all going to have tea. Now everyone's gone away. It's sad.

One of the more modern versions:
       Polly put the kettle on,
       Polly put the kettle on,
       Polly put the kettle on,
       We'll all have tea.
       Sukey take it off again,
       Sukey take it off again,
       Sukey take it off again,
       They've all gone away

I'd also like to know if Polly is Miss Polly from this nursery
       rhyme:
       Miss Polly had a dolly
       who was sick, sick, sick
So she called for the doctor
       to come quick, quick, quick
The doctor came with his bag and his hat
And he knocked on the door
       with a rata-tat-tat

       He looked at the dolly
       and he shook his head
       He said Miss Polly
       put her straight to bed
He wrote on a paper for a pill, pill, pill
I'll be back in the morning yes I will, will, will
If that's the case, she should be looking after her dolly and
       not making people tea.

Maybe that's why Sukey took the kettle off? Polly was so
distracted by her dolly's medical crisis that she forgot that
       she'd left the kettle on?
I'd actually be glad if that were the case. That rhyme meant
that I spent my childhood branded as a spoilsport and party
       pooper.

Sorry SuKi, I didn't know it was a sensitive topic, although
most people seem to dislike songs that have their name in it so
that should have warned me. In your defence, in the original
version, it sounds like the imperative form. I think someone
made you take the kettle off.
It's sad that the doctor had to leave Miss Polly in the midst of
a medical emergency, by the way. I wonder if it was due to the
unexpected phone call from the mother of ten little monkeys. She
       then called nine more times...

Well, let's just hope that neither of these emergencies happened
       in Gloucester.
