Have you tried LibriVox free audiobooks?

I was exploring what was available through my public library and
they led me to the site LibriVox.org. This is a site of free
public domain audiobooks read by volunteers. Although about 90%
of the books are in English, there are still quite a few choices
in some languages (especially German, French, Italian, and
Spanish.) They even have Bulgarian books for Irena and Arabic
books for Sofia. Here is there of number of books in the
various language.

The site says that it is free, the content is public domain and
available worldwide, although it says persons outside the U.S.
are cautioned to check the copyright laws of their countries.
I have been listening to samples of some audiobooks tonight.
The Spanish readers usually have pleasant voices and I am
learning about some classic authors I knew nothing about. (The
Artist Formerly Known as Truman Overby might want to consider
this type of volunteering in English.)
I have purchased some audiobooks in Spanish in the past and was
looking for more, because I have found that they are helpful for
keeping me from fussing on nights when I wake up several times.
I doze off and on to the sound of books that I have read in
Spanish--hoping it will have some effect in reinforcing the
vocabulary or helping me with the accents. If nothing else, I
know they help me go back to sleep and they work better than
playing the audio of most shows or podcasts because they
generally lack all those sound effects and changes of music.

Thanks, Susan! Wow, they even have a few things in Farsi (it's
under "Persian"). Even though having the "Preface from A Grammar
in the Persian Language" read to me seems a little... daunting.

I think any exposure to your target language is helpful, at
least in the long run.

Thank you Susan, interesting initiative! The Divine Comedy read
in Italian , the Coran in Arabic, some essays of Sigmund Freud
in German, the volunteer readers are very devoted.
I could put a link on Italki to the Declaration of Human Rights
in Arabic or Chinese in order to find some new friends. ;D
Actually audiobooks are not my cup of tea. I usually fall to
sleep in less than five minutes like a baby.

I am really enjoying listening to this one: (20,000 Leagues
Under the Sea by Jules Verne)

I love the voice of the reader, especially when he changes his
voice for different characters (to hear it, try listening to
Chap 21, for example, start around 3:55 to hear him change from
narrator to a different character) This same reader, Victor
Villarraza, also reads many of the classics of English
translated in Spanish, such as those by Arthur Cannon Doyle and
several others.)
With the book available free in PDF or for less than $1 for the
Kindle, reading it and listening to it is a very good project
for me.

Sounds really good! I loooove the Argentinian accent of the
reader.
When I started learning Spanish online one of my teachers was
Argentinian, and my last Spanish teacher is of Argentinian
origin. Her parents exiled themselves first to France and then
to Spain during the period of the terrible Argentinian
dictature. They were happy to be able to escape and not be
tortured to death in prison or thrown alive in the sea like it
happened to many intellectuals.
