You need to have experience with such tests. Some people have
taken lots and lots of language proficiency tests.

If my understanding is correct, according to this discussion,
OOPT is fine to check your English level but it is not used as a
certificate. It's just convenient for italki teachers to know
the student's level. I see.
I had thought OOPT cost $100 until yesterday. :D

Exact! The OOPT is probably better than nothing. The official
tests, like Nikola said, are awfully stressful.
As for the fee, I am pretty sure it was 10 dollars in 2017.
Otherwise I never would have taken the test in such a nonchalant
manner!
