Sofia, how is banning something that you don't like a 'liberal'
mindset? I mention this because I know that you're a proud
liberal.

The nearest Waschsalon I could find in Ostfriesland is in Esens,
30 miles away. You know, one of those coin-operated places?
And I’m going to need at least 10 one€ coins. So, that’s the
exciting agenda for today.
Do not underestimate the potential of a German Waschsalon. It’s
better than Tinder. Maybe you’ll meet there, by pure chance,
your next sweetheart. Be sure she has a EU passport before you
invite her for dinner.
Nikola, a Waschbär is only washing the food he eats...But they
are cute little creatures.
Sofia, Neal wanted more pictures so I took this one for him. I
think this is a great business opportunity. A SB-Waschsalon
(self-service laundromat). There are not enough of them around.
This one is a bit run down, but better than nothing. And, you
don’t meet the best of people there. This one dude was washing a
bunch of his junk, using all the machines (all 6) and I saw one
stopped and I told him “that one is done. It’s not turning
around anymore.” Then he barks back at me “it’s not done, just
sucking the water out!”
Boy, some of these people. The attitude.
Then the lady at this Tourist Information Center couldn’t even
make change by giving me more than 5 1€ coins and a wash costs
3€, only in 1€ coins, (no change machines) and a dry costs the
same, but I ended up with enough.

Gee, Steve, I've never seen a laundromat housed in an old
two-car garage even in the worst of the great USA. You've been
crowing about Germany but you post this? Are you kidding? This
looks only slightly better than beating your clothes on a rock
in the creek and hanging them from a tree to dry. No thanks, you
can have Europe. I'll stay over here in the best first-world
country on the planet and do my laundry at home with air
conditioning so cold that it's frosting the windows.

Well, Jerry I think the owner of this fine establishment is just
trying to keep his overhead to a minimum :)

Just so you can appreciate the ambiance of the place, this is
the entry. It has a sort of rustic charm to it, don’t you think?

I will have to say that the front end looks better than the rear
end. It looks pretty good. I'm just trying to picture you in
there washing your clothes with the homeless population. :o

Jerry, this is where the “elite meet” of Esens (at least). And
one of their broke-dryers stole 3€ from me. Put the money in and
zip. Nothing happened. So I had to go down the street, buy
another coffee and ask the lady for change in coins. ???

Steven, I'm a bit confused - you're staying with friends, but
they won't let you do your washing in their machine? Even taking
into account that standards of hospitality are a LOT lower in
Germany than almost anywhere else in the world, that seems a bit
weird.
But anyway, considering the 60 km round-trip, and the broken
dryer, and all those coffees in order to get change, I'd say
you'd be better off if you just went to the nearest "Wäscherei &
Reinigung". :)
Yesterday, I had to wait a few minutes in my local dry
cleaner's, and out of sheer boredom happened to check their
price list: they charge €4.95/kg - ironing included!

That's about 6 USD, I believe. My washing machine crapped out a
year ago and I was forced to make a 40 minute round trip to do
our laundry. One large load was something like $3.25 to wash.
Drying was approx 3 bucks. And that's not counting gas to get
there and back. You guys have it good with those low prices. You
weren't complaining about the 4.95 euros, were you?
