America is like your alcoholic brother.......
By: SHL Date: July 13, 2019, 1:52 am

This is a great article.
A central theme of it that until you leave the US, you really
don’t appreciate how bad it is. It’s akin to growing up and
moving away from a crazy dysfunctional family when you didn't
realize just how dysfunctional and abnormal a family it really
was until you left.
Having left the US only a little over a week ago, I even realize
how chaotic and insane a place it really is and, the sad part
is, it is getting worse.
Yeah, the US is like having an alcoholic brother. It’s a great
expose:

HTML http://cyruskirkpatrick.com/10-reasons-to-leave-america/
I sure don’t want to go back there, and I sure as h*ll am not
staying long when I do. The place is in rapid moral and social
decline, a decline that is appalling and fast moving. If you are
not there, don’t go. If you are unlucky enough to be in the US,
leave as soon as you can, for your own emotional and physical
well-being. This has never been more obvious to me than now.

Yes, my country the alcoholic brother. So much potential, if it
would just stop sucking up the liberal sauce.
Steven, you are reading articles from the Obama era, articles
that point fingers and make stupid generalizations. Who cares
Steven?
You are an adult, you think and feel a certain way, you don't
need to convince everyone you are right before you do what you
think and feel. If you need my permission then you certainly
have it, call up sis and tell her you are staying in Europe for
a while. Call up social security, tell them you are taking
early retirement.
Besides, your adventures in Europe would be far more compelling
reading than 7 year old articles written by whiny millennials.

So you're writing under the nom de plume Mark Manson eh. One
thing's for sure, you had a great editor on this little project.
How do I know this? There wasn't one misspelled word or German
quotes. So that part is good. The problem is that what you wrote
is all so predictable, Steve. It turns out you're the alcoholic
brother who can't stop vomiting. It's tiring and you just want
him to go away. Or at the least, start making sense by
acknowledging reality. But he can't. He's like the brainwashed
liberal who see darkness in light.
This is surely the part that will cause millions upon millions
to flee the US:
In 2010, I got into a taxi in Bangkok to take me to a new
six-story cineplex. It was accessible by metro, but I chose a
taxi instead. On the seat in front of me was a sign with a wifi
password. Wait, what? I asked the driver if he had wifi in his
taxi. He flashed a huge smile. The squat Thai man, with his
pidgin English, explained that he had installed it himself. He
then turned on his new sound system and disco lights. His taxi
instantly became a cheesy nightclub on wheels… with free wifi.
Genius, Steve. Pure genius. Now I know why my life feels so bare
and unfulfilling. I never even knew that I needed the option of
a taxi-as-disco-on-wheels-with-FREE-Wifi.

Well, Neal, the fact that the article goes back to 2012 doesn’t
make it less clever. It’s all the more relevant under Trump. I
thought the guy made excellent points:
“You know when you move out of your parents’ house and live on
your own, how you start hanging out with your friends’ families
and you realize that actually, your family was a little screwed
up? As it turns out, stuff you always assumed was normal your
entire childhood was pretty weird and may have actually f*ucked
you up a little bit. You know, dad thinking it was funny to wear
a Santa Claus hat in his underwear every Christmas or the fact
that you and your sister slept in the same bed until you were
22, or that your mother routinely cried over a bottle of wine
while listening to Elton John.”
That was soooo true! Or,
“The point is we don’t really get perspective on what’s close to
us until we spend time away from it. Just like you didn’t
realize the weird quirks and nuances of your family until you
left and spent time with others, the same is true for country
and culture. You often don’t see what’s messed up about your
country and culture until you step outside of it”.
Boy, that guy really summed it up brilliantly. His other points
were excellent as well. He should have won a literary prize for
that article, because it is so true.
The second link I haven’t reviewed a second time, but it was a
bit wasn’t quite as good as the first. The second was good, but
probably didn’t make terribly original points.
Then I got thinking about how much worse things are now under
Trump, making the article all the more relevant. That article
was out of 2012, long before an acting president started talking
about building a wall. Then it dawned on me that every country
that builds walls on its borders does so not to keep people out,
but IN.
It should be a forewarning of what Trump really has in mind.

I wish I could write like this guy Manson. He makes good points,
which are all the more compelling today.

So you pick the most subjective and personal points in the
article to prove your point. That is great. Frankly as I got
more involved with my friends' families I found out how truly
lucky I was to have the parents I did have. And as I interacted
with their culture the more I appreciated mine. Your author's
family sucked. Too bad. He sounds like a whiny millennial.
None of which matters Steven. The question we all have is if
you are going to stay in Europe. You should consider it, from
health reasons alone.

Neal, what you had is called good luck, like people born in
Europe. I think it’s great that you come from a great family.
But, it is just an analogy, you know that. But, a good one. I
thought it was brilliant.
Well, I’d love to stay in Europe, but I don’t know how in the
h*ll I’m gonna make it happen at the moment unfortunately. You
are right, I need it for my health, both physical and mental.

Steve, why don't you retire early? And are you willing to live
frugally? If so, you should be able to move to Europe. Spend 90
days in Germany, and then 90 days somewhere else (such as
Serbia, as I suggested; or you could try Montenegro). If you're
willing to live in a small apartment (and if you live alone, you
really don't need more than that) and take public
transportation, it should be very doable.

Jerry, tell me, and be honest. Are you really happy in Indiana?
My goodness. If you have a great income and comfortable home and
great family, and love your job, ok, well I can get it. And for
some inexplicable reason you like Trump. But, I don’t know what
you are getting out of the guy, unless you are in the upper 1%
getting all the tax cuts.
I think what impressed me most about the Manson article was the
guy summed up so well what I’ve always thought, but never
expressed.
It’s true. If you live long enough in a totally dysfunctional
and abusive country, you begin to believe the dysfunction and
abuse is normal. It’s like a wife who is the victim of domestic
violence. She makes excuses for it constantly, says, “he really
loves me” or “he’s just having a bad day (in spite of the
bruises)” and “he promised not to do it again.” “He’s really
deep down a wonderful person”. Isn’t that what Americans say
every day about the US, in spite of the constant abuse?
Back to the domestic violence cases. What happens to these
women? They eventually end up dead. We all know that. Abuse of
power just escalates.
That’s what’s happening to the US now. The population is like a
bunch of physically and emotionally beaten up wives making
excuses for the bastard of a husband. But, they dare not call
him that. They dare not tell the truth.
It’s just a matter of time before these women are dead, or in
the ICU in a hospital. That’s the course the US population is
on. Only with Trump, it’s on the fast-track.

Steven, if that is your feeling about this country then you need
to do something about it. Projecting it onto Jerry and
wondering why we dont see it the same way is counter productive.
