Congratulations to Britain, job well done.

A British Frigate interspersed itself between 5 Iranian gunboats
and a British oil tanker this morning, forcing the Iranians to
break contact under threat of fire. The Iranians were attempting
to take the tanker, in retaliation for Britain boarding and
halting an Iranian oil shipment to Syria last week. Very
professional maneuvering, no one got trigger happy, job well
done.

Here in the U.S. we are hopeful that Europe is taking this all
in and realizing who we are dealing with in Iran. Britain was
enforcing an EU sanction by stopping the Iranian oil shipment to
Syria, this isn't just US saber rattling screwing things up
again. If the Iranians close the strait it is European and
Japanese oil that gets screwed up, not ours.
I always wanted to be a Frigate Captain if I went to sea.
Frigates are where the action is :-)

It'll be interesting to see if this is called fake, as the
missile attack on the Japanese tanker was by most of the people
on here.
As I recall, the members told us that the U.S. blamed the
Iranians in order to provoke war.
Actually, I think it was the incident with the U.S. drone being
shot down.

Jerry, a) not "members", as far as I recall. Just me. And b)
what I actually said was that if I were a third party (it's not
as if there were any lack of countries/organizations to choose
from, as far as I can see), I might think it a brilliant idea to
make the US believe Iran had been the one attacking these ships.
See the difference?

tl;dr
Sanctions don't work when a) it's a big country and/or b)
there's quite a lot of antipathy towards the country imposing
the sanctions, anyway. In the latter case, they serve to
actually strenghten the regime.
Sanctions do work when it's a) a small country and/or b) a
friend/ally of the country imposing the sanctions.
What sanctions against Iraq used to achieve and what sanctions
against Iran are achieving: to really, really hurt the general
population. Those who don't have any say at all in what their
government does or doesn't do. They will actually die because of
the lack of medical supplies.
Side note (my own): Something that's never been known to happen
to those in power.
