I saw this article tonight and thought of this topic. At least
in the first few pages, the article never says ¨village¨ it
talks about the tiniest towns in every state in America.
(Including at least one where the ¨town¨ has an official
population of only 1 person.)

#21 is Port Tobacco Village, Maryland If I had time
I'd look to see if any of these places are legally incorporated
as towns. I'm guessing calling them towns is just a way to grab
readers. No matter, it's a good little read. Many of these
places would technically be called ghost towns, in my opinion.

Valley. So I have a valley joke. True story.
My brother was studying to be a doctor and part of that study
was to follow a real doctor around to learn about illness and
diagnosis. So he went to each patient to ask them what the
doctor said they had and what was the treatment plan. The
patients would routinely screw up the Latin scientific names for
their illnesses, and the most entertaining screw ups were
inevitably the venereal disease patients. My brother had
several stories but the one that sticks out the most was a woman
who had a venereal disease that sounded like "granuloma
omnovallis", which she massacred into:
"The doctor said I have a grand aroma in my valley"
To which my brother replied,
"That might very well be true, but I am really looking for the
name of your illness".
He got an A in that course.

A lot of place names have the name „valley“ in them, so that’s
not unusual. But the only place I know of where people say they
live „in The Valley“ is in the San Fernando Valley of Los
Angeles, like Neal said, which incidentally is a dump. It was
poorly developed in the 1950s and used to just be orange trees
and orchards. Then it got bought up and developed into housing
areas. Not much to get excited about.
It is surrounded North and South by smaller hills, so I suppose
it really is a valley. But it is consists of multiple
unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County, except for Burbank,
and a few other places I suppose. Burbank is the only place I
know of that got caught up in the movie /TV industry, which is
what it's known for.
No, you can keep The Valley as far as I’m concerned. I guess
it’s what you would call a term of art. I think it only refers
to that dumpy place, with towns like Reseda, Northridge, Van
Nuys, Pacoima and more. No thanks.
