What time do you get up in the morning
By: SHL Date: June 13, 2019, 9:42 am

I had to get up at that barbaric hour of 6:00 this morning,
which is horrible. I have to go to court today is why and leave
the house at the ungodly hour of 8:00 to be at court at 8:30.
This is outrageous. Why can‘t they start at 10:00?
Maybe I should be retired and living in Germany, or at least
getting up there toward retirement age.
Am I getting too old or something?
And what time do ya‘ll go to bed at night? :D :D

I get home around 7 or 8 and am usually napping right away. I
am often up at 230, reading, commenting here. Back asleep until
530. After 6Am I am just up, making breakfast, reading, get to
work 730-830, depends on what is going on.

I get up at 6 a.m. to prepare breakfast. I must leave my flat at
7 or 7.30, because I start my work at 7.30, sometimes at 8 a.m.
On Sundays and two Saturdays each month (which I have free) I
sleep until 9 or 10 (if not woken up earlier for some reason).
I try to go to sleep before midnight, but it's not always
possible. During the last few days I was writing comments on
this board so I was going to bed at 1 a.m.

Neal, you‘ve got some crazy hours. I don‘t know how you ever got
used to it.
MartinSR, it seems you work like most people. 8 or 9 to 5 (1700)
with weekends off. I used to be less aware of the hours, but now
I just can‘t seem to get too excited about doing divorces and
family law. It‘s normally not a low stress job. Most people ask
how I can stand it.
I used to think working in a library would be perfect for me.
Every talks in hushed tones, it‘s air conditioned and the hours
are 9-5. That’s about as low stress as you can get.

„Morgenstunde hat Gold im Munde“......the morning hour has gold
in its mouth. The early bird catches the worm I guess in
English?

"Ranní ptáče dál doskáče" in Czech = The morning bird
jumps farther.
There's also a somewhat adjusted version:
"Ranní ptáče bez lahváče vůbec nikam
nedoskáče." = A morning bird without a bottle of beer won't
get anywhere at all.

I do not know how to translate that proverb in any of my native
or acquired languages.
I mostly do not get up early also because I often work until 8
p.m.
I only wake up early to catch a cheap flight or while traveling
for special occasions, like looking at the sunrise from a boat
on the Gange River in Varanasi. I have sublime memories of that
boat ride.
Lately one of my Arabic teachers made me read a passage about
the description of the changing of the light on sunrise.
Beautiful ! I understood that I am missing something in my life.

As in traditionally Catholic country the only proverb I can
remember is "Kto rano wstaje, temu Pan Bóg daje" meaning the God
awards those who get up early.
I wouldn't get up so early if I could... My working hours are
not typical, because I combined three different working places
and different types of work / payment agreements. E.g. I had
free Wednesday morning and short afternoon work, yesterday I
spent 15h at work (8.00-23.00), today I work 8.00-15.00 and
tomorrow 8.00-23.00 again.

Wow, MartinSR (or Marcel?) you do have a hard schedule. It
sounds like a doctor‘s or nurse‘s schedule in a hospital.
8:00-23:00 is a pretty long day, even if it‘s only a few days a
week.
