A Suggestion for the better EGP
By: Forest Date: June 4, 2019, 9:47 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Yesterday I felt embarrassed, when I saw that some members
backbited someone. Freedom of speech and no courtesy are
completely different. Moreover, I have just recognized that
people who are not active on this site are reading our
discussions from outside. I think we need more effective
prohibition measures. It seems that some soft, friendly advices
aren't enough, in order to maintain the forum and for this
happening not to occur again in the future. What do you think of?

Thanks, but no thanks. You will have noticed that we
self-corrected in the thread in question. If you want
censorship, go to Italki.

I see both sides of this, we did do a good job of self
censorship and no one here wants to memorize (let alone enforce)
a bunch of rules. But perhaps I can mention this in the rules,
somewhere around the 'dinner party'. Not fair to mention by
name people who are not here and cannot defend themselves.
But then maybe having a rule would be a slippery slope to even
more foolishness.
Yes? No? Maybe? Perhaps?

If it ain't broken, don't fix it! No, that thread wasn't exactly
EGP at its best, but as I said, we quickly self-corrected. I see
no reason for more rules.

I'm not much into censorship either, but I do think it might be
a good idea to ask members to refer to non-members by A., B. or
C. instead of spelling out their names. How about that?

Well, I have just found a similar thread of Nikola some time
ago. It seems that people already talked about this enough.
(Actually I tried to suggest suspension of certain period of
time, not to post threads or comments. However, majority dont
like it, I admit.) Now, I feel I might overstep, not careful, to
post this subject. I need time to be accustomed to this forum in
many ways. However, I just want to tell you that more people
than you think are observing this forum. I started to think they
might not sign up for this forum due to this kind of defect that
we witnessed yesterday.
P.S. Indeed, how about blocking outsiders from reading the
threads on EGP? It would block potential members, maybe?

Alharacas,
Why do we need to mention people's name on threads? Nobody would
be pleasant if he or she is mentioned.

I came to Guyomar's defense ( the only one who did so ) several
months ago when she was verbally attacked. That thread was not
removed, as far as I know. Why not?

Because she defamed members of this forum for absolutely no good
reason whatsoever.

Yes. To put it mildly. :D Think about it - why would anyone
ever want to join a forum when they have no idea what's being
discussed there?
