Black Garlic

Has anyone tried black garlic?
HTML https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_garlic
I tried it yesterday and really liked it. The way it's made
(exposed to 60 to 77 °C /140 to 170 °F for 60 to 90 days)
triggers an interesting reaction and makes it soft and sweet. It
still has a savoury quality to it, though. The texture is
similar to dried dates. I once tried dried prunes wrapped in
bacon and barbecued, and this garlic reminded me of the taste.
Not very garlicky at all. I can kind of see why someone would
use it in a dessert.

I first read about Black Garlic a few months ago. I'd like to
try it but am sure that it's not sold here in my area of the
world. How is it eaten? Did you eat it straight up or on
crackers?

We ate it on its own, the way you would eat olives. I think it
had been preserved in oil. Crackers would go nicely with it! I
read that it's becoming popular in the States but it's more of a
luxurious ingredient and not something your local grocery store
would sell. Wait for Steve to tell us it's some kind of
nonexistent nonsense he's never heard of :)

Well, I have never heard of or seen it, but I believe you. It
sounds great, and garlic is really healthy, so I‘d buy it if I
could find it. You know you can‘t just eat garlic outright.
That’s a no go.
We have a store the rich folks go to that carries a lot of
hard-to-find imported items. I‘ll have to stop over there and
see if they carry it.

I'm rather impressed, Steve! As a matter of fact, there is a
California-based company that makes black garlic.

I‘m really not surprised, Nikola, because California is an
agricultural bread-basket, has a huge wine growing industry too,
and it‘s filled with people who are interested in exotic
products of any kind. I‘ve improved my diet and am always
looking for healthy food alternatives.

Maybe it's good for bee stings, too, Steve.

I don‘t know about that, but at least my bees are finally gone.
I‘m hoping their queen died in the wall and they gave up on her.
Haven‘t seen a trace of them and the weather has been warm and
sunny, so that‘s a good sign (they always disappear when it‘s
cool and rainy anyway).
Now I just have to deal with the deer everywhere. I‘ve got a
family that moved into to yard. At least 5 of em. A couple of
young males with the little horns and a few females. They don‘t
bother me too much. They just eat all the leaves and grass and
then stampede away if I get too close. I should invite a
mountain lion to come visiting for awhile. That’ll get rid of em
(mean aren’t I?) :)

I never heard of black garlic before. Can I use it as a Pi*za
topping? 😁
