Upside Down Flowers!?

Okay, I'm going straight to the source here and asking you guys
if Eastern Europeans carry their flowers upside down. I'd loved
to get Gryz's take on this but she took her bouquet and left us.
The relevant section starts where I have copied the link and
goes for a minute or so.

I don't think Germans qualify as Eastern Europeans, really, but
I/we do that as well. Unless it was my wedding, of course. I
think I was told as a child the flowers would hold up better
that way. Gravity and things.

I should have said any European.
That's interesting, Alharacas. I always viewed this manner of
carrying flowers as a sign that the flowers aren't going to
anyone important. It's kind of like it's a chore, something
you'd rather skip altogether. Or maybe they're dead and you're
taking them to the trashcan.

Oh my god, it's true. I've always been told the same as
Alharacas. I think even the explanation I got was equally
thorough and informative: "gravity and things". You don't mess
with gravity.

Gravity trumps 'things?' It's always the sneaky 'things' {
typically that would be bed bugs } that you have to watch out
for.

(Whispers) I can't talk about "things". He gets all funny.
