US Electoral College
By: Truman Overby Date: May 22, 2019, 2:04 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
For anyone wondering, and maybe no one is, in which case you can
skip this, this map shows in red all of the counties won by
Trump in the 2016 presidential election. The blue ones represent
Clinton's wins.
This clearly illustrates why we have a thing called the
Electoral College. If we didn't have such a thing, the winner
would be picked by popular vote by concentrated populations on
the east and west coasts.

Yeah, good idea. This will probably be my last political post
too. Now we can talk about recipes, baking cookies, “safe”
subjects like that.

What a disappointment. I thought somebody would explain me what
the Electoral college is. I know I can consult Wikipedia but I
prefer personal answers.

SHL why not?as long as you don’t say you like P*izz*a Top**pings
with ananas. But that’s Brazilian and the only Brazilian we had
on EGP migrated elsewhere.
We can speak about Currywurst and Sauerkraut .
Maybe Su.Ki will write the authentic recipe of fish and chips.

Hmmmm, the Electoral College.
Every 10 years there is a mandatory Census done in the US. Our
House of Representatives are proportioned out to the states by
population, the more population you have, the more
Representatives you get. HOWEVER. The total number of seats in
the House is 435. As the population of the US has grown the
number of residents per Representative has grown too - 325
million Americans divided by 435 seats means that each seat
should represent roughly 750,000 people.
The wrinkle is that every State must have at least one
representative, even states with very low populations. So some
western states that have 200000-500000 population have at least
one representative.
Every state also has 2 Senators in the Senate - 50 states, 100
Senators.
The Electoral College is based in the same way, with the same
numbers. Every state has the same number of Electoral votes as
they have Senators and Representatives. In almost every state
in a Presidential election the winner of the popular vote in
that state takes ALL of the electors for themselves. So it is a
lot more important to win NY or Texas or California which all
have 35+ Electoral votes that it is to win North or South
Dakota, which have 3 each.
With me so far?
