Yeah that is about it.
I'm sure there are political groups in your area that are a
little bit weird too.
Yeah, totally, we have this politician Tomio Okamura who was
born and raised in Japan, his father is half-Japanese,
half-Korean, and his mother is Czech. To cut the long story
short, he's really against immigrants. I think that's quite
similar as far as common sense goes.
Actually, that does make a certain amount of sense if you think
about it. Maybe his father is nuts, and so he's generalizing.
;)

One of the things that struck me after 9-11, comparing us to
Europe for instance. We accept armed Police every day - while
in England for instance they celebrate the fact that the 'Bobby'
is unarmed. Correct me if I am wrong but most European police
are unarmed? Except for certain units.
What happened immediately after 9-11 was the presence of the
ARMY in the streets, especially at Airports and Transportation
hubs. Americans definitely don't like that, while I know in
many other countries the Army is all over the place.
Whether the police should be armed or not is a separate issue in
my opinion, although if people are armed, it would make sense
for them to be armed, too. I believe that in countries where
they're not, the charges against people who attack police
officers are really high to make up for it.

Well, he has two brothers who are perfectly sensible. One of
them is a Catholic, a member of the KDU-CSL (a Catholic party)
who has been involved in helping refugees from Iraq. He doesn't
talk to Tomio.

OK so let's see if I follow the logic. They want to be allowed
to bear arms so they're trying to convince those who don't think
it's sensible or safe, by carrying them in a way that promotes
fear and doesn't serve any real purpose?
I have to agree with Nikola on this one. These displays serve no
purpose but to further harden anti-gunners. Low-key get
togethers for the public where the second amendment to the US
Constitution is explained and discussed along with talks about
the sensible way to carry them and the differences between
certain types of guns and how they function would be much
preferable than these unhelpful displays.
Speaking of gun types. The AR-15 is not an assault rifle, as is
widely misreported in the press. The AR stands for Armalite
Rifle, the manufacturer's name. The AR has been around for about
60 years. The AR-15 was the forerunner of the US Army M-16.
As to Irena's idea that these groups are trying to intimidate
those who disagree with them. It's possible, I suppose. This
group is probably no different than any other group, it's most
likely not a 'real' group with a leader but a loose group with
members with their own ideas.
At the same time, some of them probably think that they're
showing that they're regular non-intimidating people and that
people should chill about the presence of guns. In fact, it
backfires, I'm sure.

Nikola,
These people in those photos are maniacs. I have never seen
anything this in my life like that (except that one time in
Arizona I mentioned that scared me to death with some guy on a
motorcycle carrying a handgun in a holster in 1984).
Fortunately, my State has some of the most restrictive laws
against guns in the country and we are always trying to enact
tougher gun laws that the NRA Republicans keep fighting us in
court on on their “2nd Amendment” idiocy (That would be the
first thing I’d do if I could- get rid of the 2nd Amendment.
Then I’d get rid of jury trials).
So, there is no trying to understand the brains of people.
Really, it’s like knocking your head against the wall.
Thank goodness I will be in Germany all of July so I can get
away from all this American madness and Republicanism for a
while and recover from my near heart attack having to live here
cause me. :'(

Steve, the fact is all of that heavy, high calorie, unhealthy
German food caught up with you. There's nothing health promoting
about German food. Hell, even Hitler was a vegan.
You need some American carrots, my friend. The best in the world
are grown right here. And take Irena's advice and have a lot of
kale.

I didn't know the man. But I've read that in multiple sources
all of my life.
Why personalize it, Irena? Plenty of mass murderers and other
no-goods are meat eaters. That's no reflection on me as a meat
eater.

He may have been vegetarian (though some dispute this). I've
never seen claims that he was vegan. And even if he was, what
exactly was your point?

I always heard he was a vegetarian too, not sure if the idea of
Vegan existed that long ago.
I think it was just a joke Irena, no one is associating his
mania with vegetarianism.
