Electric bikes, electric scooters: absolute nightmare?

Browsing through the Guardian online I found this news about a
vote in German parliament.
I abhor those engines, they are an absolute nightmare for me
A) when I walk in my city I risk to be injured by them
B) when I drive my car and go out from my garage on the public
street I am always afraid to shoot one.
Do you have them where you live?

I think you mean hit one, not shoot one. Shooting is something
you do with a gun. Unless you are REALLY upset with them :-)
We have mostly weekend and tourist bicyclists and they can be a
bit of a problem, so I see what you mean. In NYC they have
special lanes for bicycles, bicycles certainly should not be on
the sidewalks with pedestrians.
Has bicycle and motorized scooter use decreased in Europe? I
would imagine due to cost of gasoline and the narrow, crowded
streets of some older cities a Vespa would be my first choice.

I'm very surprised to hear that the Europeans on here are
negative on electric scooters.
