Cuba's Dark Past

Typing "Cuba's Dark Past" brings up hundreds of articles (if not
thousands).
This one is a good synopsis, for the further education of the
ignorant.

Neal, I'm not going to sing Fidel Castro's praises, far from it,
but while you're at it, don't forget to take a long hard look at
what went on before, will you?

The question is does Cuba have a dark past? It is most
assuredly answered Yes, and even more so - they have a dark
present and a dark forseeable future. And no, it is not because
of the US embargo. It is because their government is a dark
hole that stifles humanity.
Batista was a bad man, the U.S. was stupid for supporting him
and allowing business interests to enslave the populous. That
still doesn't excuse the last 60 years.

Neal,
Batista was nothing but a gangster who had been in the pocket of
the US for decades (dating I recall to the 1930s even). I read a
biography about him once. He was totally corrupt, but the US
loved him. I recall a picture taken of the back of this US run
casino in around 1958, with these little kids with no shoes
playing football on the street, living in this pathetic
shantytown with no running water, behind a big neon sign
advertising the casino.
How did I guess it was Jerry giving you the thumbs up on that
quote of yours Neal?

Clearly, you have not read the article I cited, your minds are
already made up. As long as it is a finger in the eye of the
Americans the Cubans can be allowed to live in poverty and
hopelessness.
I would like you to transport yourself (in your mind's eye) to a
land where you make $30/month, could get arrested for what you
think, and despite your education you have no hope of
advancement. But you can walk around all day and say "Well, at
least Batista isn't in charge".
I would submit to you that here in 2019, people should not have
to live like that.

Well, I think that’s a bit exaggerated. I’ve never been to Cuba,
but I know someone who has and she thought it was great and all
the people seemed happy and healthy. What you described sounds
more like Haiti.

I'm sure your bright eyed and bushy tailed friend enjoyed
herself immensely. Keeping a population in servitude is
probably great for tourism - everyone loves a bargain!
Disgusting.
The people who work the hotels make more in tips in a week than
an MD does in a month. Too bad there is no legal way for them
to exchange the dollars and euros they collect.
