       Women Have it Made

Here's a little something to think about. A lot of the
discussion on the degradation of women focuses on the
non-western world where women truly are abused and treated as
second-class citizens. This article presents the truth about the
civilized western world that you may not be aware of if you
don't live in the US, Canada, or Great Britain.

The western world has come a long way in terms of equality and I
think it doesn't hurt to remind ourselves from time to time.
I was doing language exchange with my Italian partner the other
day. We were working on conditionals in English and talking
about what we would do if we had a time machine. I said I didn't
actually know what historical period I would choose because I
would just be seen as an inferior being and I would find it very
frustrating. If I could travel back in time as a man, that would
       be different.

The article stated: „.Courts overwhelmingly rule for women in
marital disputes, particularly when granting alimony and custody
of children.“ Wrong. At least where I live this is totally
false. That used to be true somewhat (at least in California
about 15 years ago) but NOT anymore. No way. I deal with this
everyday and I tell my male clients not to worry about it. Not
if the concern is only over gender. If they want equal (50-50)
time with the kids after a break up they will get it. They
should get it. They are parents too, not sperm donors.
Men getting 50-50 custody nowadays is so common women even never
argue about it anymore, not without a good provable reason, like
the dad’s an alcoholic or something and out of control. Or
driving drunk with the kids. Stuff like that.
I always tell the moms „NEVER say you deserve more time with the
kids because you are the mom. NO, NO, NO. That is guaranteed to
cause you to lose time with the kids and wind up a „weekend mom.
And, you might end up paying him child and spousal support“.
With alimony it‘s totally different because men tend to out-
earn women anyway, but not always. I‘ve gotten alimony (what we
call „spousal support“) for husbands a lot. The wive‘s don‘t
like it, but too bad. We just use a computer program. If you
walk into our courts with a gender inequality idea in your head,
(like you‘re the mom so you should get the kids and a lot of
alimony, and for that reason only, unless you are entitled to it
for other reasons) you will get shot down really fast by any of
       our 4 Judges.

Jerry, I suspect that those statistics your article gave about
men being victims of crime did not include domestic violence.
Here, for example, is one article that would paint a different
picture of the statistics than what the article you gave did.
