Friendly WARNING!

Don't eat marmot kidneys. When I first saw the headline I
thought "Are you kidneying me?"

Neal aren’t you immunized against the bacterium of Yersinia
pestis since you live in New York?
I always thought that New York hosts underground rats who are
infected by the plague, still nowadays.

Yikes!
Sofia I live in the country! It is not all high rise apartments
here :-)
My house is not nearly as big as some of these, but this will
give you an idea of my area

From the article "Are you kidney me?"
Unfortunately, marmots have known carriers of Yersinia
pestis, the bacterium that culled Europe as the “Black Death” in
the middle ages. Once contracted by humans, it is extremely
contagious and can be spread by coughing.
I heard that Islamic people thought eating pigs causes Black
Death and they prohibit eating them. Is it true? They have
should prohibit rats and encouraged keeping cats.

Waw Neal. You lucky man. To live in so much green space and
close to the Ocean, that’s marvelous. Is the water of the sea
warm enough in summer to swim in it?

Sofia, I'm pretty sure that Neal's area has a lot of sharks in
the ocean, if he lives where I think he does.

It gets a little scary when they take aerial pictures a few
hundred meters offshore, there are times when there are a LOT of
sharks out there. Big "Great White' ones too. But they are
mostly cruising and they seem to know to stay away from the
beaches. There are a LOT of people in the water here in the
summer. Jones Beach must get millions.
An interesting thing is the local towns all legislated that you
cannot 'own' a beach, that is a public access to the high tide
line. A favorite past time when I was a bit younger was to
wander off the state and town beaches into more 'private
property' and set up the beach blanket there. The rich people
would come out and yell at us to get off 'their' beach and we
would laugh and tell them off. Ahhh memories.
The water can be a little bracing when you first get in it, 65F
or 18C, but you get used to it pretty quick and I never really
had trouble staying in as long as I wanted to. North of us is
colder but they are still swimming in Cape Cod, off
Massachusetts. We have some warm currents and I think the Gulf
Stream heads to Europe before it gets here, but that temp is
still better than the Channel in Summer. Not as nice as the
Riveria though :-)
Im not much of a beach swimmer any more, riding the waves was
more fun when I was younger :-). I do like going out on boats
and doing some local fishing, or just a boat ride. I don't have
a boat, but there are a lot of 'Party Boats', boats for hire, or
just friends you split the gas costs with.
I have to say, the local area is really beautiful. I cannot
afford a waterfront home, but the water is a mile or so away and
the beaches are mostly sand. I hate New York, but Long Island
is wonderful.

If that‘s your house and property Neal, NICE! Beautiful looking
place.
And „marmot Kidneys“ aren‘t on my diet list, but good to get the
warning Jerry! :)
