Illegal Candy!

How many of you know that laws like this exist? To put a finer
point on it, have you ever thought of the reason behind
seemingly incoherent/random laws? Every country has laws on the
books regulating the importation and exportation of goods of all
sorts.

What's Mars? Is it a chocolate company that doesn't want to let
foreign chocolates into the US? If it's so, it makes sense.

Yes that is precisely who they are.
Makers of M&M's, Snickers, Skittles, and Wrigley's gum - big
names in candy in the U.S. and around the world.
I have heard of Kinder Eggs, the regulations against them are
ridiculous.

The heart of the regulation, as I understand it, is to prevent
smuggling. Things can't be concealed as they are in these
Surprise Eggs.
At any rate, I thought it was an interesting, kind of offbeat
article. We have enough candy here in the U.S. anyway as
witnessed by our obesity epidemic.

On the topic of Kinder Eggs, I must say I am very disappointed.
I bought one for my friend's little son. He had more fun playing
with the capsule than with the toy. We ended up chasing it
around the house and throwing it yesterday. Then I wanted to
make a cute little bomb for him like I used to when I was a kid
(I am that kind of auntie), I used baking powder and we chucked
it outside and watched it but nothing happened because they are
not perfectly sealed the way they used to be. What a letdown.

Making bombs out of children's toys, did you learn that in
Ireland?

Yes, I thought so at first. They are toys for kids and
immigration officers would hesitate to break them and confirm
inside before the kids. When it's Easter, countless eggs would
come into the US. Banning is a quick and perfect resolution.
Smugglers are looking for space to hide things. What would be
next? Kids' dolls and teddy bears? oh, already they did?

I watched MacGyver a lot when I was little. I suppose it
influenced me somewhat.

A young smuggler was not clever to send things. In Australia, an
elderly couple got a package and they were surprised to open it.
