California attempts to prevent people from voting for Trump in 2
020
By: SHL Date: May 4, 2019, 3:45 am
---------------------------------------------------------
A brave and novel approach has been passed by the State Senate
to prevent anyone from voting for a candidate who hasn’t
released his or her tax returns for the last 5 years, like
Trump. The person‘s name will not be allowed to be even on the
ballot. Hence, you can‘t vote for the person.
A great way to prevent anyone in California from voting for
Trump in 2020 (he will lose here by a landslide anyway in 2020,
like he did in 2016). CA is 100% Democrat anyway, but it‘s
clever legislation I hope more States adopt.

Sore losers. Trump won, Clinton lost. It's funny since the media
and the Dems blasted Trump for saying that he wasn't sure if
he'd accept the results of the election. She refuses to accept
that she lost.
How is it novel to disenfranchise tens of millions of voters,
Steve? The Republicans are supposed to sit back and accept this
sort of tyranny and abuse of power?
I don't care about the tax returns of any candidate. Trump's
returns are always examined in the minutest detail by the IRS.
Surely you know that. All high-income citizens have their
returns examined down to the cent.
What is the obsession with President Trump's tax returns?

Another reason to thank God for the Electoral College and an
illustration of the genius behind it.

Only a Liberal could disenfranchise tens of millions of voters
and call it "Free Elections".

Steve, you do realize this is profoundly anti-democratic, right?
Mind you, I'm not American, I no longer live in America, and I
will almost certainly never live in America again. So, it's none
of my business really. If you don't want a democracy, I'm not
going to try to force feed it to you. I'm just making an
observation, that's all. :)

Irena,
Well, I only put this up for Jerry, knowing how he is. I didn‘t
think you‘d be interested, but I‘m glad you find some interest
in it. I think it is quite ingenious myself. More States need
to do this.
And, yes I think this is a GREAT idea. Just keep Trump off the
ballot so no one can vote for him. What‘s wrong with that? What
did Winston Churchill say about democracy? „The best argument
against democracy is a 5 minute discussion with a registered
voter“? But then he also said, „Democracy is the worst form of
government, except for all the others.“ ;) Well, our Senate
passed this bill so it‘s got good support. But we don‘t really
need it out it California anyway, since we‘re solidly democrat.
The whole West Coast is, but CA is the best. The 2016 election
results were 62% for Hillary, 31% Trump; Oregon: 50.1% Hillary,
39% Trump, and Washington went 53% Hillary and 37% Trump. So the
electoral college went all for Hillary in the last election on
the entire West Coast, and that‘s the best part of the country,
a huge area and a huge population base. But, as you can see, CA
is the best (the guys in Oregon must have been smoking too much
marijuana and hit the wrong box in the voting booth with that
alarmingly high Trump number).
And Neal, I‘m surprised at you. I always thought of you as
a...sort of „moderate right-winger“? (Searching for the best
word), because I know you have a level head on you. :)
Out here, it‘s „democracy in action.“

Neal,
Actually there is a lot of support to do away with the electoral
college. Jesse Ventura is for doing away with it. He says we‘re
the only country in the world where a guy can get the most votes
and lose. Think about how dumb that is. It‘s as dumb as the gun
rights 2nd Amendment. An anachronism.
We don‘t have an electoral college for the House and Senate.
Then why have it for the President? It‘s just dumb.

But Irena, the US isn’t a democracy anyway. It‘s a plutocracy
with an authoritarian billionaire leader who hasn‘t the
slightest idea of how to even lead a country and hasn‘t a clue
about the function of US government anyway.

This is probably the best and most intellectual analysis of what
is going on with US politics at the moment. It‘s the shortest
summation I could find by Noam Chomsky. The podcast host is
good, but he‘s not why I posted this. It‘s just that he ran the
shortest version of a fairly long dialog on Democracy Now!
It sums up the situation brilliantly and better than anything
out there. And the reason is Chomsky is one of the last true
intellectuals still alive.

Steve, the U.S. is not and never has been a democracy. It is a
representative republic. The electoral college exists to prevent
large states from electing the president. If we had direct
elections, New York City and a few parts of California would
have elected Hillary as president.
It's clear that you don't care for representative government,
and that's fine, but you should just come out and say that you
want a dictatorship of the elite. That's what direct elections
would yield in the U.S.
Oh, and Chomsky is a walking, talking, bonobo.
