       Deaths due to election fatigue?

Does this seem bizarre to anyone else? How hard do you have to
work to die of a fatigue related disorder? Overwork from an
       election?
I do not recall hearing about anyone in the U.S. ever dying of a
fatigue related illness. Is this a new category that I
am just not aware of or does this happen regularly in developing
       countries?

I heard about this and was thinking the same. Here's another
article about it that mentions other cases of death from
overwork in other countries, Japan and China in particular. In
Japan, they even have a word for it: karōshi.

I question the veracity of this report.

Both reports seem odd to me. There is obviously no such thing as
„election fatigue“ as a cause of death. Overworking leading to
cardiac arrest or a stroke I suppose are feasible, or disorders
related to lack of sleep (seizures possibly?), but I have never
heard of any studies on it. You would think one would just
collapse from exhaustion before dying of „ fatigue“ and go to
sleep, but this is the sort of thing experts would have to
comment on, and I know of no peer-reviewed medical articles on
       this.

Now, where's Terecia when we need her? :)
I was wondering - and really, Jerry, why would you assume
somebody would bother to lie about something like that? Plus,
there's another, more extensive article here:
  HTML https://edition.cnn.com/2019/04/28/asia/indonesia-election-death-intl/index.html
       - whether perhaps counting votes was considered an honour only
to be conferred on relatively elderly people (50+)? And/Or
whether it was seen as such a highly responsible job it could
not be entrusted to younger people?
Then it might make a horrible kind of sense, wouldn't it? It's
not so unlikely you'd have about 300 people with heart or other
health related problems among 1,5 million election staff, is it?
Give those people a job which is stressful both physically and
mentally, stop them from drinking and sleeping enough for two
weeks, and, well, 300 dead would not be that surprising, would
       it?

Maybe we shouldn’t always measure events with a western point of
       view.
Though, standardized international classification of diseases
are made in the West and in particular in the US, there are
cultural varieties in the expression of any disease. We don’t
know anything about the circumstances of those elections in
Indonesia. As Alharacas mentions, why should those be “fake
news”? But some participants in this discussion probably think
anyway that CNN isn’t a serious news channel and Al Jazeera
       (Qatar) neither.

Chronic fatigue syndrome exists and there is research in the US.
I do not know however if it can lead to death.
       Here some scientific articles.

Maybe we shouldn't always measure the seriousness of a news
channel by European standards. It seems clear that you aren't
aware that the number of people watching CNN has fallen
dramatically after the recent TRUMP-IS-A-RUSSIAN AGENT hysteria
{ fueled in large part by CNN and the New York Times } was
proven to be a hoax. Just as us normal rational people knew it
       was all along.
I could go on and on about their bias but facts don't matter to
some people. And I don't want to give cause for Nikola to boot
me. Well, not for this, anyway. I'll post something more worthy
       of a banning, maybe.

These sorts of stories are points of pride in that part of the
world. And Japan has long bragged about how they work until
they're carried out feet first. I think it's a lot of malarky,
for the most part. Mexico ranks highest on the number of hours
worked per year. How many stories have you seen about Mexicans
dropping over dead from overwork? In over fifty years of
reading, I've seen exactly zero stories of Mexicans dying from
       overwork.
I try always to remember to not believe everything I read. The
great Mark Twain has an excellent quote about this, but I can't
seem to find it at this moment.

I'll play along and take CNN as a serious source. Here's a few
       lines from their story:
Anwari's daughter, Anna Karlina, 30, told CNN that her father
began preparing for the elections three days in advance of the
       April 17 vote.
Her father had a history of heart problems, and began to feel
chills and shortness of breath in the days leading to the
       election.
This man was already gravely ill.
