Signs of Deteriorating Mental/Physical Health in Country Leaders
SPLIT from "US Citizenship"

@SHL
A bit off topic probably. Were you looking for this kind of
information? A list of personalities who had dementia? The list
I found is not updated
HTML https://www.verywellhealth.com/famous-people-with-alzheimers-98082
Unmistakable signs can be found analyzing the language of the
person, either written or spoken. Neuropsychologists did that
with the official speeches of Ronald Reagan and how his
vocabulary kept reducing and getting more and more generic.
Reagan started using the word THING instead of an appropriate
term.
The same analysis was made with the writing of Iris Murdoch. Her
lexicon was dramatically impoverished in her last work. It was
an early sign of the onset of dementia.

Sofia,
Yeah, I wasn‘t trying to take the thread off-topic or be funny,
but what you said it exactly right. Cognitive loss involving
language is an early sign of Alzheimers. Just YouTube
„Trump-slurred speech“ and host of news clips will pop up about
this. Some are over a year old, and this illness just gets worse
with time. If you listen to old clips of Trump from the 80s he
is lucid and clear in his thoughts and speech and now is
occasionally slurring his speech, using the wrong words for
things (like he really did use the word „oranges“ instead of
„origins“ twice in one sentence, and there are other examples).
It should be worrying.
I‘m not trying to get into a political topic here, but any world
leader who showed cognitive decline should be of concern to
everyone. This guy struggles to pronounce „anonymous“ saying
„euonomonous, aeronomooos.“ It‘s pretty shocking.

It's shocking how democrats always wish for ill health for
republican presidents. They've done it ever since Ronald Reagan
and they're still doing it. It's sickening and disgusting.

Well, I don‘t wish ill-health on anyone, not even Trump. But,
Alzheimers can strike anyone, especially those over 70 at
anytime. Even in those who have never had a drink or smoked a
cigarette in their entire lives.

Sofia
What year did they start seeing the problems in Reagan's speech?
I know he didn't do nearly as well in the 1984 Presidential
debates as he did in 1980. My brother the doctor picked him out
as suffering from Alzheimer's before the official announcement.
Reagan's speech at the Bush nomination seemed symptomatic.

I will be commenting later when I have time because our "gem" of
a president also falls into this category.

If memory serves me, plenty of people commented on Hillary
Clinton's unknown state of health. (Didn't she faint at some
point?) Now, some people may have wished for her to be ill, but
wishes aside, if you hold an important office or are running for
one, you are no longer just a private citizen, and the
electorate is quite right to wonder about your state of health.
It's got nothing to do with gossip (okay, so it has a bit to do
with gossip), and it has plenty to do with making sure a person
is capable of performing his/her duties.
Anyway, now that Hillary Clinton is back to being a private
citizen ;D, none of us have any business demanding that she
release her medical information.

One of the research papers I read on the matter is this one
Bearisha V, Wang S, LaCross A, Liss J. Tracking Discourse
Complexity Preceding Alzheimer's Disease Diagnosis: A Case Study
Comparing the Press Conferences of Presidents Ronald Reagan and
George Herbert Walker Bush. Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease.
2015.
As for the content, this article of a British newspaper gives
the main content.
HTML https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/11506047/Ronald-Reagans-speeches-showed-the-beginnings-of-Alzheimers-before-diagnosis.html
Reagan admitted in 1994 that he was diagnosed with Alzheimer but
the analysis made by the researchers of the Arizona University
shows that his speech patterns started deteriorating while he
was in office. They compared the “corpus” of his speech to that
of president Bush that never had any cognitive impairment over
the years.

I never said that no one has the right to inquire about the
health of a candidate. It's the viciousness and the double
standard that's employed that's shocking. Foreigners don't
always see this important difference.
By the way, did you know that BILL CLINTON DID NOT RELEASE HIS
MEDICAL RECORDS? It's pretty clear why. So don't tell me that no
double standard exists.
Go take a look at the news conferences where reporters were
shocked that Trump is not suffering from severe health problems.
This news conference happened after he released his medical
evaluation. The press went even more bananas and hysterical than
ever. They were and are out of their minds. They simply refuse
to believe that he's healthy. It was clear from their questions
that they were were hoping and praying that the man was sick
with heart disease or some other horrible thing. All you have to
do is watch the press conference and hear it for yourself form
their own mouths. Again, as I said earlier, it's sickening and
disgusting the treatment that Republican presidents receive.
But I'm sure that no one here will be convinced, even after
seeing evidence of this treatment. It's useless to try and
convince some people, even when they read or hear evidence.

People seem to have just picked up from where we were in another
thread but to those who are confused as to where this topic
emerged from, it has been split from the US Citizenship topic
under General Discussion, as announced there. I wasn't aware
that "split from" or "moved from" had to be manually typed in.
Sorry if this caused any confusion and thanks for having
patience with the moderator :)
OK, problem solved now :)
