Tskhinval CANCELLATION

Hi all,
unfortunately I had to pull the plug on the Ossetia event.
I found their proposal way too expensive, their program too
touristy, and attitudes too pushy.
Please see this mail from Misha as an example:
The Ossetian side developed an intensive 4-day program covering
both North and South Ossetias. It is a bit different from the
one I posted on the forum. I will translate and send it
tomorrow.
It includes meeting at the airport with colorfully nationally
dressed girls and boys with famous Ossetian pies, four delicious
dinners with music and dances, all major and some little known
sights, artistic performances at location, i.e. amid ruins of an
old castle. The ETIC participants will be guests at the
celebrations dedicated to the SO Republic Day. We are supposed
to be accomponied by a photographer and a videographer from the
arrival till departure. A professionally made film will be later
sent to everyone. A set of suvenoirs with ETIC logo. Mercedes
minibuses, a good hotel in the mountains. Mass media coverage.
In short, the pomp and splendour of the Caucasian hospitality.
Unfortunately we have to pay for it. I wonder if 1800 USD pp
scare people off? The price also includes expensive SO "visas".
For those who don't mind this cost and content, Misha will
continue to organise the Ossetia trip on his own.

I have found a less expensive program for you from fellow
extreme traveler Sascha Düerkop, General Secretary of
www.Conifa.org, who enjoys a good relationship with the South
Ossetian government since several years. Here is Sascha's

This is his proposal for US$ 800.
19. Sep 2019: Transit and Beslan
Meeting at Vladikavkaz Airport (or city center, on
request),
Visiting Beslan
Lunch in Ossetian restaurant in Vladikavkaz
Transit to Tskhinval with photo stops along the way
(natural spring, Uastardzhi monument, etc).
Dinner at "Vincenzo's Cafe", the best restaurant in
Tskhinval at the main square
20 Sep 2019: Republican Day!
Breakfast in Tskhinval
Military Parade in Tskhinval (approx. 11am)
Lunch in form of free food trucks from all regions of
South Ossetia at the "South Ossetia Cultural Festival",
accompanied by live music and dances
In the afternoon: Traditional Dance festival and
fireworks
Dinner at an Ossetian restaurant by the river
21 Sep 2019: Transit back
Breakfast in Tskhinval
Visiting the National Museum and the Souvenir Shop (the
only one). On request: Visiting the National Bank or Post to buy
stamps/coins
Drive to Edist (georgian Edista) in the North of the
country. Picknick in the mountains close to Edist at a
traditional Ossetian sanctuary (Ossetian Pies).
Transit back to Vladikavkaz to any hotel by request.
Included: 2 nights accommodation in a twin room with ensuite
toilet and shared showers at the main square. 24/7 guide
availability. All transfers and meals. All entry fees. South
Ossetia "visa".
Optional additions: Prolonged stay in South Ossetia to visit
Leningor or the more traditional rural areas of the country,
Transit from other airports in the Northern Caucasus.

in case you are interested. I will not participate in South
Ossetia.
