       Quins 6-26 Esher Expendables
The Expendables made it 4 from
4 on Saturday after overcoming a very determined harlequins
Amateur vets team at Mary's university sports ground in
       Teddington.
Esher were missing 8 backs for the game including , flawless,
Losardo, Lawton, tango, Ben Rob, Terminator, Spandex and plastic
       cop Harman.
So the mission in the build up to the game was to beg, steal and
borrow any back or player that could play in the backs that was
       actually available.
The team lineup was changing by the day and the usual flirtation
of using Julian Evans, Yogi, and Edwards was discussed and
       quickly dismissed.
Captain Smith was quoted as saying, " we're not that desperate"
       Yet!
Alex Morgan and David Richens who haven't played a game for over
6 years each both made their Expendables debuts on the wings.
Wolfie started on the right wing with the flexible Butterworth
       moving from lock to fullback??
Cameron finally declared himself available for a vets game and
started at centre alongside Ben Wrong.
The ever reliable Jez Best and zimmerframe made up the half back
       pairing.
Flawless was pleased that he had managed to put a half decent
       set of backs together.
Skipper "big bear" smith realised that with Schmid not
available, Butterworth in the backs and the Fijian running late
he would finally get a chance to appear in the number 8
position, having been told never again following his league
title costing performance against Pauline's last season. Byde
and Raynor slotted in at flankers.
Snowball Unsworth and welsh john started in the front row. The
engine room was made up with a combined age of 106 with Geraint
       and Hegs
( would have been 206 if Sylvo hadn't retired)
Esher kicked off with the wind behind then and managed to re
claim the ball and after a couple of phases zimm put through a
fine kick for the flying Aussie to dive in and put Es 5-0.
       Conversion was missed by Cameron.
Quins were clearly up for this game and took the game to Esher
dominating at the breakdown and using their back row and centres
to quickly get over the gain line.
With only one line out jumper Esher were unable to take any
clean ball and zimm was having to deal with tap downs and
scrappy ball ( you try doing that at 5ft1 and 17 stone!!)
So the backs were not getting much quick ball and were
struggling to control possession and territory.
Quins slotted 2 penalties following infringements around the
       tackle zone.
Cam kicked a late penalty to make the half time score 8-6 to
       Esher.
The second half was going to be a struggle for Esher playing
against a heavy wind and with limited ball as quins were
       starting to get on top.
Flawless switched cam to fullback and Butterworth to 12 to
ensure we were able to get over the gain line and felt cam would
       be more dangerous from space.
Quins threw everything at us and had a 7 minute spell camped on
our line yet great disciplined defence from Esher held them out
and Cameron got an opportunity to slot over 2 penalties to make
the score 14-6 with 60 minutes gone.
Richens was weaving his long lost magic in the game and nearly
ghosted his way through but the offload went astray.
Sheasby finally turned up having fell asleep listening to his
own voice. And slotted in at 8 replacing Byde who was awesome in
       defence.
Flawless tinkered again putting the Fijian in at centre and
moving Butterworth back up to the engine room.Hegs went for his
usual early shower, or was it a nipple injury?
The fresh legs quickly made a difference and Esher were finally
able to get possession and dominate territory, with tubaesi
finding big holes through the middle.
Fine interplay down the left saw smith off loading to Raynor to
score in the left corner. This was a huge game changing moment
and quins quickly knew their chance had gone.
Further substitutions were made with the mad Frenchman ( no not
Pat the real French man) Xavier making a long awaited return
after a 2 year absence at hooker, and the 11 stone prop Elgar St
Marthe slotting into the second row.
Esher then scored again through Morgan after a lovely offload
from cam to finish off a Sheasby break from the base of the
       scrum.
Cam slotted the conversion to make the final score 26-6.
Expendables are now unbeaten in 13 months.
Next game is away at Reading followed by local rivals Weybridge
       gay boys in the league.
