       Expendables 44-19 Cobham
The expendables started their 2013/14 league campaign on
Saturday with a hard earned victory over a gritty Cobham all
stars team that refused to to be rolled over.
Ex skipper Jim Bird came out of a 2 year injury exile to start
at scrum half with Flawless who has been a more than able deputy
during birds absence reverting to outside centre.
Yomi also made a very rare appearance after getting a day off
from his ticket touting job to start on the wing and to
everyone's surprise actually lasted 5 minutes before being
replaced by Lawton who for one actually turned up for the start
       of the match.
Tango was absent due to a trip oversees to top up his tan and
was replaced by plastic cop Elliot Harman.
Esher started brightly with some fine interplay between lawless
bird and Zimmerman which created an opening for Elliot to crash
       over under the posts.
Butterworth was looking dangerous from his fullback role and
went over for a fine try.
As the game went on Zimmerman was looking more and more like
Stuart Barnes but playing like Gareth Chilcott would as a 10.
Further tries came from From lawless and spandex Harman
Cobham pulled one back shortly before half time to make the
       score 24-5
Locks Hegs and Geraint were dominant in the tight and made
useful yards creating gaps in the all stars midfield and Esher
were able to recycle the ball but the final pass was missing on
       several occasions.
Skipper Smith gave his usual halftime motivational team talk
which resulted in Cobham scoring 2 more tries to pull the score
       back to 24-19
Eeeesssssss then stepped up a few gears with flankers Raynor and
Byde dominating in the loose with powerful runs creating tries
for Lawless, Unsworth, Tabusi and miles to make the final score
       44-19.
       Team:
Figgi, Unsworth, Smith, Hegs, Geraint, Raynor ,Tabusi, Schmid,
       Bird, Zimmer,
Harman, Harman , Lawless, Lawton , Butterworth,
Wolfe, Snowy, Byde, Miles , Yomi,
Skipper Smith was happy with the result but felt Esher needed to
be more ruthless in attack and disciplined in defence as tougher
encounters are due during the league campaign.
The boys then went out for a drink or two in Esher to celebrate
the birth of baby Raynor . Johnny will be hoping to shred the
excess baby weight he has carried during the pregnancy before
the next game on 19th October against Old Cranleighans.
