       Ranbir, Shahrukh to clash during Diwali

       Two megastars of Bollywood are all set to clash during the
       Diwali weekend of 2014 as two mega budget films are scheduled to
       be released at the same time. The Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Happy
       New Year’ by Farah Khan will be released at the same time as the
       Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Jagga Jasoos’ by Anurag Kashyap. The same
       situation had occurred six years earlier in 2007 when the debut
       film of Ranbir, ‘Saawariya’ clashed with Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Om
       shanti om’ where he introduced Deepika Padukone to Bollywood.
       ‘Saawariya’ did not do well at the box office while ‘Om shanty
       om’ was a mega hit. It rem,ains to be seen how closely history
       repeats itself during the Diwali weekend of 2014.
       All the other major festival slots of 2014 have also been
       blocked by a number of films. Anurag Kashyap said, “I will keep
       my film ready for release by September next year. After that, it
       will be the producer’s call to release it on Diwali or whenever
       they want. But the fact is that we haven’t taken a call on the
       release date yet.” On the other hand, when interviewed, Farah
       Khan said, “If the trade people know more than Shah Rukh and me,
       let them only shoot the film. We haven’t decided on the release
       date. Who knows, we might come before Diwali. Let us take the
       final call first.”
       While no official release date has yet been announced, Ranbir’s
       ‘Jagga jasoos’ will probably release during Diwali as there are
       a number of detective films expected next year and Ranbir wanted
       to release his film first. Other films of this genre releasing
       next year include ‘Detective Byomkesh Bakshy’, ‘Bobby Jasoos’,
       ‘Samrat & Co.’, and ‘Mr Joe B Carvahlo’. ‘Bombay velvet’
       starring Ranbir is scheduled for Christmas of the next year. So,
       chances are high that Ranbir will target the Diwali slot.
       The competition is likely to be tough. Last time the two stars
       clashed, ‘Saawariya’ failed at the box office while ‘Om shanty
       om’ was a runaway hit. This time, Shah Rukh has again got his
       lucky charm Deepika on his side while Ranbir is paired with his
       reported lady love Katrina – a couple that has won the warm
       appreciation of box office. An intense promotional campaign is
       expected and the performance of the two films is sure to be
       interesting.
