Better known as the Grand Master of Zee TV’s DID (Dance India
Dance), Mithun Chakraborty is back with the show’s fourth
season. However, while Mithun Da dawns the hat of the Grand
Master, we won’t get to see Remo D’souza, Geeta Kapoor and
Terence Lewis as the judges this season.
So who replaces them? Well it’s a new set of judges - Mudassar
Khan, Shruti Merchant and Feroz Khan.
Interestingly, the options for the new judges were given to the
channel by none other than Mithun.
In a conversation with Tellychakkar.com, the star went on to
talk about DID the brand, the new judges and more…
It is a ‘Dance it Out’ season; tell us something about this new
concept? “Even in my early days of my career when I was going
through a lot of difficulties in life that included lots of
sadness, every single day I always made it a point to dance it
out; this helped me forget everything. Hence, one day when I was
just sitting back and discussing how important dancing was, this
idea of taking this concept to the common man struck me. That
moment I yelled ‘don’t get upset or violent, just dance it out,”
the terrific actor said.
Well, the dancing in the show this time will be theme-based and
this new concept will be judged by a new bunch of judges. When
we questioned their (channel and Dada) decision of roping in new
faces, he averred, “When your concept clashes with the people
you’re working with, it’s not the best thing to happen. Hence,
we wanted to get people who think alike on board. I gave the
idea to Zee and also suggested the names and here they are.”
When we remind him that according to us the judges of the
earlier season would have understood him better (having worked
together in three seasons) to he stated, “As a dance show, DID
is setting new standards today and anybody who wants to know
dancing will watch it certainly. In fact the turnout this season
has been huge. The point is that more than me knowing the
people, they (audiences) should know the talent.”
Even then the Remo-Geeta-Terence will be missed. “Missing is a
wrong word. They all have been great as judges but as you know,
I like pushing people and since I have known the new judges for
a while, we roped them in.”
What if the audience doesn’t accept the new judges? “If you see
it carefully, DID Junior did not have Remo-Geeta- Terence.
Today, it does not matter whether the Grand Master is there or
not, it’s the concept of the show that works. The three of them
have been a part of us and will always be.”
Lastly, with his latest film Boss releasing and doing good, we
ask him whom would he call the Boss of dancing? “Someone who is
light footed, dances with his heart, lives-sleeps dance and also
treats it like his prayer is the ‘Boss’ of dancing.”
DID airs from 26 October 2013.
