Not sure how to word this question. I hardly ever get to watch
a game anymore. Is Marmol pitching bad on purpose?

I just think he's become a head case like Zambrano did, but I
don't know what's up with him for sure. If he's not happy with
the Cubs he should be pitching the best he can so somebody else
will want him. I think he's just lost it & he's so into his
head he can't get it back. Probably being traded & then not
traded during the off season doesn't make one feel very wanted.
Maybe that's his deal. I just wish he'd go away or at least not
       pitch any more. lol

I would not have had the balls to stand in line with the other
       players today before the game!!!!!!!!

Carlos Marmol was a time bomb from the time he was converted to
pitcher from catcher way back when. His motion was and is
violent, awkward, jerky and difficult to repeat. His arm is an
injury waiting to happen. The velocity it once produced has
started to degrade and the snap on his previously knee-buckling
slider is now gone. What's left is an unpredictable but
straight fastball with little life and a rolling slider that
rarely shows the sharpness it once had. It wouldn't surprise me
if he landed on the disabled list at any moment.
We forget how excellent he was. The moment he was as the zenith
of his dominance, Jim Hendry signed him to an extension. In the
middle of the 2011 season, when he was still dominating the
League, Hendry chose to hang onto Marmol instead of trading him,
when he could have gotten a king's ransom for him. Hendry, who
was fired at around the same time due to his many failures,
you'll remember, could have traded Marmol to a contender but
instead of making any deals that year, left the roster virtually
untouched because he wanted to leave everything in tact for the
next administration. What a guy, huh?
In the second half of 2011, Marmol tanked badly and stopped
striking out as many hitters as he did previously, which is what
made him so dominant in years prior. Carlos Marmol minus
strikeouts equals a pretty average reliever.
The problem became that the Cubs were paying Marmol like an
elite reliever, which he no longer was. Ever since then, he's
gotten worse. His strikeouts have continued to go down, both in
rate and in total while his walks have gone up, both in rate and
in total. He's also been much more hittable.
So, to sum up, Carlos Marmol was once exceptional, then average
and now crap. All of which was foreseeable. All Jim Hendry had
to do was have a little bit of intelligence blended with a dash
of reality to prevent it happening to the Cubs. Had he just
traded Marmol when the time was right instead of hanging onto
him during his lame duck administration, the Cubs wouldn't have
to put up with this today.

And since nobody wants him, the Cubs are going to have to put up
with him or eat contract $$.
I was looking at him this weekend & he looks so much heavier
than he did a few years ago. I think his uniform might just be
       too tight & that's why he can't pitch. ;)

I read on FB that we can't send him to the minors without his
permission. WTF?? So, if that is true, just ask him twice a
day EVERY day if he's ready to go to the minors!

At this point I would say they'd be better off releasing him if
they can't trade him. It's not like he is going to suddenly
       figure it out.

So they can release him without his permission but not send him
       down?

       [/quote]
Correct. There are other things they can do -- maybe he can
come down with a "phantom injury" and they can send him to Mesa
to work with the minor league pitching coordinator, they can put
him into a "mop up" role and pitch him only in blowouts or they
can get his permission and send him down to re-work his
       mechanics.
I wouldn't expect any of those to work.
