Eng232 - Fantasy Final - Xavier's Dream
925 A.D. - It didn’t help that he looked different from the
rest of the Kanobi folk. He was much smaller than his peers and
the only physical resemblance he had to anyone in the clan was
his mother. They had the same sky blue eyes, eyes that
subsequently provoked and embodied a higher meaning to life - a
meaning of which was still a mystery. Xavier’s seemingly
emaciated frame and rather ghostly complexion in comparison to
his peers - made him salient. Moreover - his hands and feet were
disproportionally larger than his body with a slight webbing
between each finger - the type of webbing you might see on a
premature duckling, struggling to cope with both physical and
emotional limitations that accompanied the anomaly of his
makeup.
Often times growing up people laughed at him. Judging him on
looks and behavior; his ever so often “blank stares” out into
the intriguingly infinite sky is what brought the most ridicule.
Some in his village even called him stupid or slow, but all
Xavier knew was that something was missing inside and out. This
ambiguous feeling deep inside of him provoked seemingly futile
wonder about life and who he truly was. Frequent thoughts of
confusion overcame him like an angry swarm of pollen-deprived
bee’s. Like the bee’s - he knew he was there for a specific
purpose, but he had yet to find it. In retrospect, Xavier knew
he wasn’t lesser than the rest, just a work in progress.
Xavier lived with his mother amongst the Kanobi folk, who built
their community on the rocky foothills of Mt Kanobi nearly 100
years prior to Xavier’s birth, somewhere around 800 A.D. His
mother was a strong women; a great mother, but worked so often
in the hills that they barely got to spend time together. When
they were together Xavier frequently asked about his father but
his mother would always shy away with no direct response. For
years this had been happening, but as Xavier was now approaching
his 16th year under the Moon, what followed next would put all
of Xavier’s doubts to rest once and for all.
His 16th year would be there in 22 nightfalls and the pondering
thoughts began to occur much more frequently, only this time
they were accompanied by an odd sense of confidence; a strange
urge that he was closer to figuring out who he truly was.
Inexplainable really, but Xavier could feel it.
A mere 2 nights prior to his 16th, xavier was laying in his hut
staring at the stars like usual, just about to doze off when his
mother walked in. Odd occurrence Xavier thought, as a percentage
of fear instantly crossed his mind. Xavier’s mother worked
throughout the night, as all Kanobi women did. For nutrition the
Kanobi people relied heavily off of a special fruit from the
“Star” plant which only surfaced from the rocks at night,
causing many women of the Kanobi people to work those hours.
Her coming home early had only happened once 5 years prior when
Xavier was convinced by his “friends” to fly off the roof of his
hut and grab La Luna, something xavier had been claiming was
possible. He knew something was wrong.
His mother, a women of few words, stepped into their hut and
silently stared at him for a solid 30 seconds with no response
to his questions, a moment that seemed like eternity.
"We need to talk Xavier,” his mother said. “About your
father.”
Xavier’s concern flew the coop immediately and was replaced
with interest. She first apologized, saying she should have told
him earlier but could never bring herself to do it. Your father,
he wasn’t like us, she began. He was special. “Obviously,”
Xavier laughed to himself, making sure to not offend his mother.
Your father came to our planet one night almost 17 years ago,
she said. Planet?! Xavier interrupted. Yes our planet, she
responded. See, your father is from La Luna, far up there in the
sky. Xavier knew it well as he had spent countless hours staring
at it over the years with no apparent reasoning behind it. He
came down to protect our people all those years ago from the
turmoil of Khan’s Clan, the former ruling clan of the mountains
until just before Xavier’s birth. She explained how he was
smaller than most physically, but compensated with intelligence
and confidence. Not to mention he could fly. Thats how he got
here. The conversation went on as she explained every little
detail of his father and his promised return for Xavier once he
was ready.
So much made sense now. All of the interest in the sky, his
differences among his people, and the knowledge that their must
be more out there, all slowly became apparent. In one nights
time, his father would be here, xavier thought. Excited thoughts
raced through his mind the entire night/day following. He
couldn’t tell the other folk boys as his mother had made him
promise. Very few in the clan knew the truth behind his mothers
affair with Xenor, Xavier’s father, many years prior. The elders
of the clan were embarrassed by it, choosing to ignore it in the
years following and depriving xavier from the truth. But that
mattered no more, as the night sky had began to rise from the
east.
It seemed like eons, but as the La Luna hit mid sky that
evening, a miraculous sight ensued. Suddenly it seemed to glow
with fiery emotion. Shaking uncontrollably in the sky before
coming to a sudden halt, the glow disappeared and a bright image
resembling a star came barreling towards earth. Could it be?
Moments later the bright light crashed into the peak of Mt
Kanoboi with such force that a rock avalanche seemed sure to
follow. The gleaming light nearly blinded the entire clan as
they couldn’t help but keep their eyes glued to the sight. A
physically small being with an enormous presence walked down in
seemingly slow motion from the top of the mountain; right up to
Xavier. Xenor’s eyes dissected xavier, and Xavier’s his. They
analyzed one another to a pulp without speaking a single word.
Finally the silence broke, “I’ve been watching you, son.” Xenor
stated. The Kanobi folk and Xavier’s peers gasped with
confusion, some even breaking out in a rant. “I’ve been watching
you, father,” Xavier replied thinking of the countless hours he
had spent staring up into the night sky. “I wish there was time
to explain here. But you will know it all soon enough, just
trust me,” Xenor added. Something Xavier had no problem doing.
With no further warning Xenor grabbed Xavier’s hand and told him
to do what he had always done, “Don’t look down son, look up.”
Not a second later a feeling Xavier had only yet tasted overcame
him and he burst into the air hand in hand with his father.
Relief and excitement overcame Xavier. An emotion that would
soon dissipate.
The flight wasn’t long. Xenor showed his son a few maneuvers
and xavier quickly caught on to the whole flying thing. “A
natural,” his father added as they approached La Luna, causing
Xavier to smile. The landing was a bit rough but they now had
their feet on the ground. Xavier didn’t know what to think at
first glance. He had never seen anything like it in reality.
People looked like him. His surroundings resembled his dreams.
He felt at home.
The next few weeks were a blur. Xavier’s life had changed. What
he thought was going to be the best thing that had ever happened
to him had quickly turned into a nightmare.
Xavier hadn’t seen his father since the day after they had
arrived, 14 nightfalls prior. His days consisted of battle and
weapons training, constant screaming and discipline from Luna
soldiers, solidarity from peers. He had never seen weapons like
this, or even thought about such a thing. He could find no
reasoning to the training he was given. Nothing was making sense
once again. These exhausting routine days went on for nearly a
half rotation of Luna around the galaxy, until the Day Xavier
woke to his father kneeling just above him.
His father acted as if nothing had happened. Asking if he was
“alright” was the most sincere thing said. The conversation
reminded him of his mother. It was like he was keeping something
from him. Xenor asked Xavier if he would follow him. As he did
from earth without question. Hesitating a moment, Xavier thought
of his time here and how his father did not mention any of it
prior. It was confusing to xavier, but he deliberated quickly
and reassured his father, “without question.” The two exited the
capsule, walking outside to an army of epic proportion standing
in perfect formation saluting both Xenor and Xavier.
Xavier didn’t know what to think at first. A small part of him
was scared yet still excited. His father looked at him with
confidence and told him “Xavier, you’re even more special than
you thought.” La Luna people have been waiting patiently for 16
years for your arrival. You’re the only one who can save us.
Xavier, still a tad confused, looked to his father for
confirmation. “Xavier, I am King Xenor of La Luna, and you are
next in line.” He said. Xenor explained to Xavier that every La
Luna king or future king must be birthed by human mother and La
Luna male in order to obtain all powers necessary to lead. They
must deal with constant ridicule in order to develop thick skin.
“Xavier, I am not strong enough to lead the army against the
coming danger, thats why you are here.”
It was if a light had turned on and Xavier now understood all he
needed to. He didn’t know exactly what “Danger” was coming or
how he would lead but his confidence outweighed his doubts.
“This is it Xavier, I shall see you upon return.” Xenor stated
as he turned and walked away. “But what if..” Xavier was
interrupted by his own thoughts. “No more what ifs” he decided,
as he began to address his army. He spoke with confidence like
his father, reassuring the Luna army that they were in good
hands and he would lead them to victory.
For the next couple of nightfalls Xavier lead the army east on
La luna to the dark side of their home, the spot where all chaos
would ensue. In those two nights the Luna General, Xaviers
second in command, explained to him all there was to know about
the history of La Luna and the evil creatures from Neptuna that
tried to conquer years prior with a promised return to destroy.
Xavier laid down to rest that evening. “When they arrive, we
will be ready.” Xavier thought. And before he could close his
eyes fully, what he had unintentionally been preparing for his
whole life, quickly became a reality.
The noise its self was like nothing he had ever heard.
Screeching fireballs pierced through the sky landing just feet
from him as the Neptuna Army followed closely behind. Some were
already injured as Xavier barked out orders. “Get in formation”
he screamed. “Hold tight.” The fireballs were still coming as
the Neptuna army landed just meters in front of Xavier. Xavier
charged forward with no fear as his army followed in unison. For
the next nightfall or so brutal, life or death matches occurred.
By sunrise the second day, all that was left was a few of
Xaviers men. A pile as big as mountain was stacked with deceased
Neptuna soldiers. They thought they had won as no Neptuna’s
seemed to be left. “I did it. We did it” Xavier thought as ease
overcame his mind. Until the aforementioned pile began to move.
Slowly the pile of neptuna soldiers seemed to melt together,
forming something that was unrecognizable to all witnessing.
They had melted and formed one giant evil creature that now
stood stories above Xavier and his few remaining men. All
thoughts of ease had disappeared as Xavier thought this may be
the end. With limited energy and few men, Xavier knew he had to
take it into his own hands. He charged the creature at full
speed, leaping with assurance as he did that night long ago off
his roof. The creature swung at Xavier with full force, sure to
destroy him if contact was made. But just as the creature
missed, Xavier drove his whole body directly into the creatures
eye, dismembering him of all his fallen comrade parts, crumpling
him to the ground. Xavier stood over him with a scary look in
his eyes, one that he nor anyone else had ever seen before. From
that moment on, the Luna people new this was their leader. The
one that would protect them from evils to come.
Xavier and his army returned to the bright side of Luna shortly
after, arriving to a heroes welcome. People were ecstatic with
the results, thanking Xavier with much sincerity. Something
Xavier had never experienced. He hadn’t realized the severity of
all of this until that moment. They had been on the brink of
extinction since the Netpuna’s last visit and that fear was
nothing but an afterthought now. Xavier had saved an entire race
and was now the hero he always dreamt of being.
As his father approached Xavier, he couldn’t help but be
excited knowing his father would be proud. He closed his eyes
and bowed his head waiting for approval.
Just then as his father touched his shoulder, Xaviers eyes
re-opened. He was laying in his hut back on the foothills of Mt
Kanobi now as his mother stared at him.
"We need to talk Xavier,” his mother said. “About your father.”
