       Global Chalice Lighting from International Council of Unitarians

       A flaming chalice: The cup of life…
       A cup of blessings overflowing.
       A cup of water to quench our spirits’ thirst.
       A cup of wine for celebration and dedication.
       The flame of truth.
       The fire of purification.
       Oil for anointing, healing.
       Out of chaos, fear, and disquiet,
       the symbol was crafted, a generation ago.
       So may it be for us,
       in these days of uncertainty, and doubt.
       A light to warm our souls and to guide us home. (adapted)

       Notre calice allumé est la coupe de la Vie. Une coupe de
       bénédictions.
       Une coupe d'eau qui étanche la soif de nos esprits ; une coupe
       de vin pour célébrer et dédicacer ; la flamme de la vérité ; le
       feu de la purification ;
       de l’huile pour l’onction et la guérison.
       Loin du chaos, des peurs et des inquiétudes,
       ce symbole a été conçu il y a une génération.
       Qu'il en soit ainsi pour nous, en ces jours d'incertitude et de
       doute.
       Qu’il soit une lumière pour réchauffer nos âmes et nous guider
       lorsque nous serons chez nous.

       Global Chalice Lighting Words: offered to us by the Hungarian
       Unitarian Church

       We light this chalice in remembrance of those who laid down the
       foundation of our communities in the spirit of freedom, love and
       tolerance, to remember that true light will outshine darkness:
       “Faith is the gift of God. The true signs of faith are an inner
       purity and love and an honest life and good deeds. Love is the
       ultimate interpretation and completion of the law. According to
       Jesus love is the plenitude of the law. Love is a royal
       commandment. Love is the true freedom, which does not bear the
       bondage of fear. Love is the creative spirit of the world, the
       highest treasure of humankind.” (Francis David, founder of the
       Hungarian Unitarian Church – XVIth century)

       Nous allumons ce calice en souvenir de ceux qui ont jeté les
       bases de nos communautés dans l'esprit de liberté, d'amour et de
       tolérance, et afin de se rappeler que la vraie lumière éclipsera
       les ténèbres :
       “La foi est le don de Dieu. Les vrais signes de foi sont une
       pureté et un amour intérieurs, une vie honnête et de bonnes
       actions. L'amour est l'interprétation ultime et
       l'accomplissement de la Loi. Selon Jésus, l'amour est la
       plénitude de la Loi. L'amour est un commandement royal. L'amour
       est la vraie liberté, qui ne porte pas la servitude de la peur.
       L'amour est l'esprit créateur du monde, le plus grand trésor de
       l'Humanité. " (Francis David, fondateur de l'Église unitarienne
       hongroise - XVIe siècle).
