Ethan Liam’s grimoire was unique in that it taught him three
skills right off the bat. Two of which were reanimation skills,
but both seemed rather weak for their requirements to summon. A
skeleton and a skeletal rat. Both could be useful if he had the
numbers but to gain the numbers, he was required to kill a few
creatures first. Nobody would shake their head at a rat dying
but if you killed a person on the other hand was a death
sentence. Ethan was given a few dozen rats to play with in his
training session allowing him to kill off the rats and reanimate
them one at a time into a larger sized rat servant made from
bone. In taking notes it didn’t seem like the reanimation spell
used the original bones from the rat. Instead they were created
by magic after fulfilling the required material. This brought
the idea of maybe the spell wouldn’t require a human host to
create a human body.
Ethan’s thoughts caused him to explore the school’s biology wing
allowing him to study the different types of creature’s
skeletons they had within the wing. The different creatures’
skeletal compounds had different makeups and chemistries to
them. However, something unique happened when he would place his
fingers on the skull rather than just observing the skull form
afar. When he touched it the mana in his fingers caused by the
material and the grimoire connecting using him as a medium
allowed Ethan to know that he could use which skull for which
summoning just by the touch. If this was the case Ethan
prophesized that maybe, he could find a skull that was similar
to that of a human skull.
As Ethan spent the rest of his way in the biology wing, he
noticed that he couldn’t find a direct match for the spell he
was using. No other skull could be used as a human substitute.
Could it be that this was just because of the fact that the
skull was that important or could it have been something else
altogether. Ethan grabbed his grimoire looking at it for more
information. The spellbook had many blank pages in it all
besides the three that were already filled out with all the data
on his current spells. It was at that moment that he noticed the
spell itself required a human skull but if he could possibly
learn how to reanimate a new creature, he could bypass this in
the future by using a completely new spell. In any case class
was over for today so he decided to return to his dorm in
preparation for his final class.
