       Chopping Wood
By: Mile Date: January 23, 2019, 8:11 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Mile's eyes widen with surprise once she hears that she would
have a companion on her wood-chopping adventure. Her excitement
only grows once she realizes that Sarah was a girl her age. With
the hope of making her first friend filling her gaze with stars,
Mile lunges forward, taking the slightly older girl's hands in
       hers and clasping them together.
"N-No reason to apologize! I'm happy to get started right away!"
All her previous disappointed had faded away. After grinning at
Sarah for a moment more, she releases her hands. A blush crosses
       her face.
       "Um, well. Shall we?"
She allows Sarah to lead the way.

As their hands had grasp together, Mile could feel the roughness
of the young girl's hands. Sarah's warming smile increased ten
fold on contact with Mile's hands.
"Shall we go, in the case?"
Sarah said pulling her hands away before grabbing Mile's right
hand with her left and leading her towards the back. The area
outside was on the outskirts of the small town with a bit of a
separation from the main part allowing for a natural forest to
surround the building. Around back was a small stump and a stack
of logs that had been cut down but not chopped apart yet. The
stack height was about that of the entire blacksmith, all
stacked neatly against a small fence to shield from wilderness
       creatures.
An axe was leaning up against the blacksmith used to most likely
chop the trees down. Meanwhile on the stump there was a small
hatchet most likely used for chopping up the wood.

Mile gapes at her surroundings as she gets her first real look
at the forest surrounding them. The stack of logs was the next
       to get her attention.
"Wow. The two of you cut all these by yourselves?"
She speaks with genuine wonder in her voice, letting go of
Sarah's hand to inspect the axe. She lifts it with one hand,
staring at it. After a moment, she places it back down and turns
       to Sarah.
       "So, how do we start?"

As Mile separated herself from Sarah, Sarah walked over towards
the logs. She acquired one of them before speaking.
"We just need to pick up the logs and take them to the chopping
       block."
After placing the log upon the stump she pulled the Hatchet from
the stump with little effort and placed it over the top of the
       wood.
"Stand the wood up tall. After that strike the wood with the
hatchet to split it in half. We continue until the wood is in
       eight even pieces."
Sarah would notice Mile pick up the large axe. This causes her
       eyes to widen.
"Wow! You are quite strong. Maybe you can wield the axe while I
do the hatchet. We can chop the wood twice as fast that way."
After Sarah finished with the wood she brought it to a pile and
       started stacking the splintered remains.
"If you cut something to thin place it on a pile all its own. We
will use that splinters as fire starters."

       "Huh..?"
Mile is initially confused when Sarah comments on her strength.
Her confusion fades into realization and finally turns into
panic. She waves her hands, shaking her head frantically.
"Ah, no! It's probably too heavy for me to just swing it around
       easily!"
She bites her lip, then lets out a sigh, slumping her shoulders.
She mutters something to herself about doing something
ridiculous again, then moves back over to the axe. Making a show
of lifting it up again, with two hands and a strained grunt this
time, she grins semi-maniacally at Sarah. Finally, she sets it
       back down.

"I'll just use the hatchet too! May I?"
She holds out her hand to request the tool.

"Well in that case. You chop the wood and I'll run supply."
Sarah offered the hatchet willingly. After handing over the
hatchet she would walk over to the wood pile to acquire yet
another piece of wood placing it on the stump face up for Mile
to split. After placing the log, Sarah takes a few steps
backwards in order to give a safe distance from the swing.

       "Okay... Here goes nothing!"
Mile raises the hatchet in her right hand. She swings it down at
the log. The glides cleanly through the wood... At the wrong
angle. An odd-shaped chunk of it flies off, leaving the rest of
       the log intact.
"Huh... Hold on! Let me try again!"
Without pausing, Mile continues, raising the hatchet to strike
at the wood again. In her panic, she instead manages to cut off
a chunk of the opposite side. She whines softly.
"This is harder than it looks..."

"It all burns anyway. So it's fine if things don't cut properly.
Not to mention wood doesn't always split evenly. Just keep
trying I'm sure you will get used to it."
Sarah says bringing over another solid piece of log to cut.
Afterwards she would grab Mile's hands and help guide the swing
in a mock attempt to demonstrate where to strike the log for
       best hit.
"Now do it just like this."
Sarah explained. Afterwards she stepped backwards a few steps to
allow Mile to get back to work.

Mile closely follows Sarah's instructions, bringing the axe down
exactly where she was told to. The log splits cleanly in two.
Jumping up and down, while demonstrating the most unsafe way to
wield a dangerous tool, her excitement boils over.
       "I did it! I did i- eh..."
Her sentence is cut short as she sees what else she had split.
In her earnest attempt to do a good job, she had managed to put
a large crack in the stump itself. She nervously eyes Sarah,
hoping that, by some miracle, she hadn't noticed.
"U-Umm.. I guess thatstump has seen a lot of use... huh? Eheh.."

Sarah stood there in shock. She couldn't believe what was right
in front of her eyes before quickly shifting to a warm smile.
"Nope, daddy just cut that tree down yesterday."
