Anna Tucci was born in Detroit to a loving,
supportive family. Considered a prodigy from the moment she
learned to talk, when it came to studying, sports, arts, chess,
talking with adults, and more, Anna was a bit of a wunderkind.
School was no trouble for her and she breezed through her
classes one after another. Unfortunately, her aptitude proved to
be a thorn in her happy family life. Everyone had high hopes for
her. Too high. This drove a wedge between her father, who wanted
one thing for her, her mother, who wanted another, and her
grandparents on both sides, who each wanted to lay claim to her
and send her down paths of their own. The constant fighting tore
her family apart. In school, she was avoided, as other girls
would think she was stuck-up or too intelligent for them, while
boys found themselves intimidated or annoyed by her. Throughout
it all, all she wanted to do was live a normal life. Fresh out
of college, waiting at the bus stop beside a sketchy-looking
gentleman and a young couple, she found herself in a dangerous
situation not exceptionally rare in her city. A slow-moving car
pulled alongside the sidewalk, tinted windows easing their way
down. Those in the know, including Anna, started to flee to take
cover. Unfortunately, a child, oblivious to the situation, began
walking past the bus stop. Seeing that nobody was around to stop
or protect them, Anna’s body moves on its own. Gunshots ripped
from the windows, then for Anna, everything went black.
When she came to, Anna found herself in a blindingly white
chamber. The floor had a large emblem imprinted on it, picturing
a massive gauntlet, clutched into a fist.Across from her in the
room, a large, tan-skinned man sat atop a lavish throne. He
introduced himself as Torm, the god of courage and
self-sacrifice. Having seen Anna give her life for another, he
took pity on her, offering her the chance to be reborn in
another world. Along with that, he offered to grant her a single
gift, to make her time in the other word easier. Rather than
asking for some amazing ability or riches or fame, she instead
requested that she be allowed to be average in every way. After
being questioned multiple times, she insisted on being an
average girl, so she could live an ordinary life in the new
world. Finally, her wish was accepted.
Born into a new world, she was no longer Anna, and instead was
named Edele Tilcott. Her father was a duke in the kingdom of
Halcen. Her mother passed shortly after her birth, but despite
this, the first nine years of her life were relatively peaceful.
That changed when her father remarried. His new wife, and the
daughter she brought along with her became the center of his
universe. Edele was pushed farther and farther from his eye,
until the night of her public debut came about. During this
time, a royal child would be introduced to the public and begin
their life of mingling with other royal families to form
connections for their futures. Rather than allowing Edele to
debut as planned, the stepdaughter took her place and was
introduced as ‘Edele Tilcott, The Duke’s only daughter’, also
making her the heir of the Duke’s house. Edele was sent away and
forbidden from using the family name, as not to reveal the
secret. Sent to one of the Halcen Kingdom’s lesser academies,
her room and books were paid for by the Tilcott family. Taken in
as a noble sponsor, the new name she took was Edele Caden, a
commoner’s name. Even considering her regrettable situation, she
enjoyed her new school life. Her naivete and general relaxed
demeanor initially invited bullying, but her earnest nature
forced a turnaround, instead gaining her a group of loyal
friends. Unfortunately for Edele, her happy school life only
lasted six months. Walking back to the academy from the
part-time job she had taken to pay for her additional bills, she
was interrupted by a royal parade. Guard stood around a large
carriage, guiding it from the streets to the castle. Edele
elected to watch the parade with the crowd, just in time to see
a little boy, attempting to get a look of his own. His squeezing
through the crowd causes him to lose his balance and he falls
out in front of the procession. It was common knowledge that
interrupting a royal parade was a serious crime and the guard in
front wasn’t going to excuse the slight. Lifting his spear, he
jabs the boy in the stomach with it, knocking him back onto the
ground as he started to get up. He lifts the spear again, just
as Edele leaps from the crowd and protects the boy with her
body. The irony strikes her immediately as she laments the fact
that she was going to die again in almost the same way again.
She raises her hand in a feeble defense. Unfortunately, or
fortunately, she finally realized that her definition of average
and the god’s definition were two very different things. A
lattice barrier appears at her fingertips, completely deflecting
the oncoming spear blow. A spell that humankind had never
experienced was unleashed right in front of the entire crowd.
Rather than making her average by human standards, the god had
granted her an average ability right between the weakest being
within the world and the strongest. This resulted in abilities
several hundred times higher than a normal human being. Shocked,
the guard ceases his assault. Edele, also in shock, manages to
get to her feet. She releases the boy back into the crowd, then
makes her escape as well. Before the guard could give chase,
he’s admonished by someone within the carriage. With that, the
carriage continues on its way. Edele returns to the academy,
hoping that she would be able to resume her life unhindered.
Unfortunately, she had been recognized. Before long, a letter
arrived at the academy, addressed to Edele Tilcott, summoning
her to the castle. Attempting to explain that it was a mistake
and that she would be in deep trouble if rumors got out that she
was using the Tilcott name, she manages to convince the
messenger that her stepsister at a much better academy was the
true recipient.
Knowing that, once her stepsister arrived in the castle, they
would know it wasn’t her by appearance, she decides to leave.
Traveling to a neighboring country, she takes a job at a local
guild as the lowest rank of hunter. She makes a meager living by
hunting small animals and collecting herbs, but eventually, an
encounter within the guild causes her to reveal her ability.
Slicing the sword of an experienced hunter’s sword cleanly in
two after being threatened, she soon finds herself in a meeting
with the guildmaster. She’s recommended to Elsend Academy. The
thought of another chance at a normal life enrapturing her,
Edele, now simply going by ‘Mile’, travels to the Academy and
enrolls in her first classes.
Personality: Mile is an incredibly earnest and naive, though
intelligent girl. She's a fast learner, who's always eager to
try something new. Despite her strong desire to make friends,
she isn't adept at understanding ulterior motives or taking
things beyond their face value, resulting in an incredibly
gullible nature. She attempts to hide her mighty abilities,
hoping to simply enjoy an average life among friends.
