Yusuf Ismail Khaliq El-Amin adjusted his dress and took a deep
breath. On the other side of that door laid the future of his
country. The future of the country he had fought and killed for.
The future of Yakmia. The wrong word, the wrong gesture, the
wrong look could destroy his country before it was even born,a
nd it was up to him to stand up against Amin Mohammmadi and
fight, this time in a less literal sense than before.
Sa'adat walked up to him and adjusted his collar using the one
hand she still had.
"Are you ready, Yusuf? It's time."
Yusuf nodded slowly and breathed out.
"Yeah."
"Very good, ser," Santiago responded and opened the door for the
two of them to walk through.
"Yusuf Ismail Khaliq El-Amin with his wife Sa'adat Fatima
Waheeda," a man announced loudly as the two of them walked
inside with Santiago in tow. They both sat down without so much
as a glance in the direction of Amin Mohammadi sitting next to
his very pregnant wife, and Yusuf's little sister, Tasmin
Izidihar Nateqi.
Yusuf took another deep breath. Sa'adat and himself were the
last to arrive, and now they only waited for the queen of
ZâRhodaia. He had heard rumours of course. He had heard all
about The Ice Queen, The Whore Queen, and a few even less
favourable nicknames for the leader of the country. As far as he
knew, she was tough as nails and cold as the country itself.
Convincing her would be difficult, but it was a task he was up
for.

Ekaterina Nadezhda Valeriya Rozanova, daughter of Aleksandra.
Empress of the land of eternal winter. The ice queen. Whore.
Witch. Succubus. She had many names these days.
She wore black and silver. Her dress was long, the train
dragging several feet behind her as she walked and her torso and
left arm was clad in what resembled armor. She looked cold.
Fierce. Without mercy. But Mikhail knew better.
He looked upon his wife in awe and she met his gaze with her
usual determination.
"They're waiting for you", he said and pressed a kiss to the top
of her head, careful not to mess up her hair.
"Trembling in fear?" she chuckled playfully.
"Quite possibly", he smirked. "Are you going to behave?"
"Perhaps. I won't make promises I can't keep."
"Very well."
He offered her his arm and the doors opened. This was it.

The room took a deep breath and everyone stood up in unison as
the queen was announced. Ans as soon as the first syllable of
her name was said, Yusuf felt his blood turn to ice in his
veins.
"Ekaterina Nadezhda Valeriya Rozanova!" the man said, and Yusuf
didn't even hear the name of her husband. It was her. It was
Kat. The only woman he had ever loved. The one who made him who
he was, and the very reason he decided to help free his people.
There was a ringing in his ears, and he was suddenly furiously,
uncomfortably aware of how different he looked to when they knew
each other. There was a long scar stretching from his temple,
all the way down his cheek and across his lip, distorting his
smile a fair bit. On the other side of his face, just at his
jaw, you could make out the top of a burn that covered most of
the left side of his body. He walked with a cane, and two of his
fingers had been lost in an explosion.
A bead of sweat ran down his back as all the memories of the
woman in front of him came flooding back.

Silence filled the room as Kat moved to claim her seat, very
aware of the man next to her. Her Yusuf. Ther love of her life.
Father of her firstborn child. But she didn't look at him. She
didn't dare. She was afraid for the first time in so long and
she honestly felt quite stupid that something so simple would
scare her after all she'd seen.
It was like people were holding their breaths as her cold gaze
scanned the room.

Yusuf couldn't feel his legs as he sat down along with the rest
of the room, desperately trying to get Kat to meet his eye. Gods
in fucking heave, she was about to speak. Hearing her voice
would ruin him and he knew it. His hand found Sa'adat's and
squeezed as tightly as he could. She squeezed right back,
because she knew. Of course she did. He looked at Santiago, but
nothing about him broke the silent, perfect composure he held
and Yusuf felt a rage boil up in his throat.
Had he known? Had Santiago known this entire time who the queen
was and had just neglected to tell him?

Kat's eyes finally fell on him. It almost broke her. The years
of war had not been kind to him. She wanted to make them pay,
but that would have to wait.
She averted her gaze and cleared her throat.
"So," she started, amused at the way some almost seemed to jump
out of their skin when she suddenly spoke. "I suppose the time
has come to welcome you all here. My kings and queens. Lords and
ladies. But I say we save the pleasantries for later."

Tears burned at the back of Yusuf's eyes, and they threatened to
break through, but somehow he kept his composure.
Her voice was the most beautiful thing in all of the world, and
he couldn't believe he was hearing it again. He remembered their
last conversation as if it had been yesterday, but he only
realised just then that he had all but forgotten her voice. His
eyes once again fell on her face, her wonderful beautiful face.
She looked different, of course, but that only served to make
her more beautiful. When they had known each other, she had been
a girl, and as she stood before him, he suddenly saw a woman. A
wise, beautiful, radiant woman, who commanded respect as soon as
she walked into a room.
Then the moment was soured.
Amin Mohammadi stood up and took a deep bow.
"My Queen. You are a vision. If I may, I would like to start
these proceedings with a few words about the man sitting across
from me. He tried to rip our country apart and thousands died
for it. I hope you, in all your infinite wisdom, will see he is
nothing more than a vain, greedy man, who couldn't be satisfied
with the throne alone." Mohammadi sat down with a smile and a
nod.
