The Top 20
By: Tom Date: May 28, 2013, 5:54 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
So now is the time to unveil the top 20 players.
Tied at rank 20 and 19, Hidden. And Akino-
Hidden.: 3rd Generation, Europe. Total SSL: 56.
Hidden has been a very solid Snipers player for quite some time
now. He's an easy and safe pick for a team captain to make, and
he's one of the players in the Snipers community that I trust
most. Hidden's scores are almost never extremely good, but they
are almost never extremely bad either. Hidden's play style is
more focused on being a team player, which makes him a must-have
for scrimmages and serious pub games.

Akino-: (sE.Poseidon) 3rd Generation, East. Total SSL: 56.
Akino- had been the “face” of Snipers on East up until its death
quite recently. Despite Akino not having played recently and
despite our differences, I still believe he is a top 20 sniper.
Akino's playing style was much more effective on Gem's version
of the map, because it was predicated on base camping and
waiting on hills for mana. Nonetheless, Akino has been in
countless wars and has shared the battlefield with some of the
best to ever do it. He may be slow to start, but once he gets
going, he's pretty hard to stop. Downloaders, beware!

At rank 18, deadoralive1
deadoralive1: 3rd Generation, East. Total SSL: 57.
deadoralive1, or DOA as I call him, is one of my favorite
players to have on my team. DOA is the opposite of a flashy
player, as you'll almost never see his scores at the top of the
leaderboard. However, DOA has no problem doing the dirty work
and sacrificing himself for the greater good of the team. His FS
ability is noteworthy and he is also one of the most trustworthy
people I know. DOA is one of the few players that is actually
better at teamwork than he is going solo.

Another tie for ranks 17 and 16, Rare- and pablo19
Rare-: 4th Generation, East. Total SSL: 58.
The first thing I have to say about Rare is that he's very hit
or miss. Rare could dominate one game and have the worst record
in the next. And it's not because he's lacking in skill. If you
take a closer look at Rare, you'll realize the only thing
lacking is his motivation. That being said, I'd take Rare on my
team any day. It takes a good leader to harness Rare on a more
frequent occurrence, but with patience he wins games. His
ability to go solo is rivaled by few, and he's also a great
windwalker. To his credit, Rare is the youngest player in the
top 20.

skill: 8. Knowledge: 5. FS ability: 5. WW ability: 7.
Consistency: 5. Efficiency: 6.
Pablo19: 3rd Generation, East. Total SSL: 58.
I'll start by stating the obvious- Pablo is the best FS'er that
still plays Snipers today. He might miss one or two total FS'es
over the course of using it the entire game. Almost everyone
that plays against Pablo has wondered whether he is hacking at
some point, and everyone that has played on his team has loved
the benefit of a teammate constantly hitting the mark. I think
Pablo could be a top 10 player if he put more focus into other
aspects of the game, but I doubt he will want to give up his
crown as best FS'er anytime soon.

Consistency: 4. Efficiency: 4.
Coming in at rank 15, Warchest
WaRCheSt: 4th Generation, East. Total SSL: 60.
Despite Warchest's recent inactivity, he still pulled out a top
20 appearance. This guy is the epitome of above average. There
is no skill Warchest is lacking in, but there is also no one
skill that he excels in either. Look no further than Warchest
for consistent scores near the top of the leaderboard, but
almost never at the top. He is a formidable opponent because he
is so well rounded, and that also makes him an ideal teammate
since you can assign him to any task with confidence he will
succeed. Hopefully he returns to our community to play every now
and then.
Locking: 6. Anticipation: 6. Awareness: 6. Teamwork: 6. Solo

Consistency: 6. Efficiency: 6.
At rank 14, IaM]
IaM]: (LaoN-) 5th Generation, Europe. Total SSL: 61.
Despite IaM] having been exiled from the Snipers community for
being caught hacking and refusing to admit and quit, I believe
he is still skilled enough to remain in the top 20. His scores
when not hacking were much less efficient, and he wasn't nearly
as consistent. However, I taught IaM] a great deal about Snipers
and saw him improve over time. If IaM] got a good start, he
would likely finish with a ridiculously efficient record. But if
he didn't, he would likely slump deep into the negative. It is
my hope that IaM] returns to us a changed person, someone who is
more genuine and ready to start a new chapter in his Snipers
life.

At rank 13, Hunter[SanD]
Hunter[SanD]: (Death[SanD]) 3rd Generation, Europe. Total SSL:
63.
Having recently returned to the Snipers community after having
found Clan SanD, Hunter has already shown his potential to be a
great sniper. The more games that I play against Hunter, the
more I find myself being increasingly wary if I know he's
lurking. His increasing threat level should be no surprise,
considering he has returned from a long layoff without playing.
However, I believe that Hunter is also improving by watching
others and is learning on the fly. If I had to choose the sniper
with the most potential, at this moment I would choose Hunter.
He doesn't do anything exceptionally well yet, but the keyword
there is yet. With a foundation of already solid skills, Hunter
is looking to crack the top 10 very soon.

A tie for ranks 12 and 11, Rapedman and Catastrophic
CaTaStRoPhiC: (Dragon_Slay3r) ?? Generation, Europe. Total SSL:
64.
Kory is his real name. Despite recent allegations of hacking as
well as his infrequent playing, Kory still cracks the top 20. I
have known him for quite some time, and have always liked him. I
wish Kory would be more involved in the Snipers community, but
he is also a committed ladder player. If he isn't the biggest
threat when he's on the opposing team, you're probably going to
lose. He is a formidable opponent when he gets a few kills, and
you rarely see him lose a lock. The only knock on Kory is his
consistency. Sometimes he gets lethargic and ends up feeding the
other team, but normally he's a difficult opponent to deal with.

Consistency: 5. Efficiency: 7.
RaPeDMaN: (Maurice96) 3rd Generation, Europe. Total SSL: 64.
Maurice has been a top Euro sniper for as long as I can
remember. Despite being one of the many caught hacking in the
Celestial scandal, Maurice has continued to show why he deserves
to be a top 20 sniper. There are few players better at using
windwalk than him, and it's a big reason why his scores are
frequently near the top. Maurice has top level efficiency as
well, so when his scores are good, they're really good. He has
room for improvement in his teamwork, FS'ing and consistency,
but I don't want to face him if he ever gets those down. Like a
few others, Maurice has been around the Snipers community for
quite some time. But unlike others, he actively contributes to
its growth. Now if we could just get him to stop rage
quitting...

At rank 10, SkuL_Elves
SkuL_Elves: 3rd Generation, East. Total SSL: 65.
Like myself, Skul was one of the first Easties to actively play
on Europe. Having recently returned to the Snipers community, it
appears as though Skul hasn't lost a step. Skul is one of those
players that has never caused any problems, and he's always fun
to talk to. As far as skill, I'd take him on my team any day of
the week. Skul isn't normally going to put up ridiculous scores,
but don't be surprised if he finishes close to the top every
single game. He is one of the better players at working as a
team, making him valuable to have at your side. I think he's
better at working as a team than he is at going it alone. The
more players we have like Skul, the better. I hope he continues
to actively play Snipers. If guys like him stick around, the
future is bright.

Rank 9, O[w]L-
O[w]L-: (is everywhere) 5th Generation, Europe. Total SSL: 66.
This may surprise a lot of you, but if you've seen him play
lately, it shouldn't. For the longest time, I had to deal with
Owl the hacker: a game ruining, IP changing smurfer. But since
we had a sincere conversation, Owl has changed for the better.
He records his games by streaming so that we know he isn't
hacking, and I give him a lot of credit for doing that.
Ironically he still gets great scores on a consistent basis, so
it looks like he never even needed to hack in the first place.
Owl is a very dangerous foe in windwalk, and his consistent
scores make him a trustworthy ally. If he can improve his
teamwork and FS'ing, Owl will become a top 5 sniper.

Consistency: 7. Efficiency: 7.
At rank 8, Zo0LanDeR
Zo0LanDeR: 3rd Generation, West. Total SSL: 69.
Zoo has been around for quite some time, occasionally dabbling
in Euro Snipers. Unfortunately he is no longer active on Europe,
but I hope that will change. Zo0LanDeR continues to remain an
integral member of Clan StH. Either way, he is probably
underrated where I put him. Zoo is one of the most consistent
and reliable players remaining. He has the rare combination of
being able to play alone or with a team effectively. I don't
think Snipers was ever Zoo's main game, but I wish it had been
so that we could have seen just how great he would've been. As
you'll see below, it was difficult for me to rate any one of
Zoo's abilities below a 7, simply because he does everything so
well.
Locking: 6. Anticipation: 7. Awareness: 7. Teamwork: 7. Solo

Consistency: 8. Efficiency: 7.
Rank 7 is Plague[SanD]
Plague[SanD]: (AgentTex) 5th Generation, Europe. Total SSL: 71.
Plague is one the best students I've ever had. Having started
playing Snipers just a year ago, he has improved faster than any
of his peers by far. Despite also being caught in the Celestial
scandal, Plague is committed not only to playing clean, but
stopping other hackers from doing so. As skilled and
knowledgeable as Plague is at Snipers, I have more to say about
him as a person. Plague is the single most committed and caring
young man I've come to know in the game of Snipers. He may come
off as arrogant to most, but if you dig deeper you'll realize he
just wants the best for the game itself. When I first met him as
Tex, I realized that this person could help me revive Snipers.
As excited as I was, it took a lot of work to get him to realize
his own potential. Plague currently holds the reigns of the game
itself, and I think Snipers has a promising future because of
it. He has recruited more new players to Snipers than anyone
before him. Long live Clan SanD!

At rank 6, SeC
SeC: (Grimoire.) 3rd Generation, East. Total SSL: 73.
I was very pleased when Kyle came back and played on Europe for
a while. He participated in our inhouse scrimmages, making them
a lot more fun because of it. Since then he has yet again
dropped of the face of the planet, but I'm fairly certain he
will return once again, hopefully soon. Kyle has played Snipers
longer than almost anyone remaining, and time has sharpened his
skills. There is literally nothing he does that is even close to
average, meaning he has no weakness. And unlike other lesser
players with no weakness, Kyle does excel in multiple
categories. There are only a handful of players I would choose
to have on my team before him. His great skill paired with his
extremely reserved personality has made Kyle a great addition to
the Snipers community.

Rank 5, Celestial_One
Celestial_One: (PtD-Captain) 3rd Generation, East. Total SSL:
76.
Celestial led Clan PtD and is a long time Clan StH member. Any
time there was ever some sort of Snipers drama, you'd likely
find Celestial somewhere near the center. But that was back in
the day. Today's Celestial is much more reserved and mature than
back then. He regularly contributes to the Snipers community,
including the recent event where he caught multiple high profile
players hacking. Ironically though, right after falsely accusing
me of hacking, I caught Celestial hacking. Thankfully we've
moved on from such drama. There are very few (if any) hackers
remaining in the community, and this is partly due to
Celestial's work. On the playing field, there are few who can
keep up with Celestial's skill level. His combination of high
Snipers IQ and FS'ing ability make him a deadly opponent as well
as an invaluable ally. He talks big, and backs it up. Penders
must constantly be aware of Celestial's location on the map. If
they're not, they will get ambushed and killed quickly. He may
not always be the friendliest person, but when push comes to
shove, there is almost no one I'd rather have at my side in a
Snipers game than Celestial.

The 4th ranked sniper is drewisfat
Drewisfat: 3rd Generation, East. Total SSL: 77.
I remember Drew from a very long time ago. He was all about
Sheep Tag and Snipers, and I think we're better off for it. Clan
StH is even more storied than Clan SanD, and as their leader,
Drew has been there for all the stops. StH was never a big time
Snipers clan, but it contained many talented players through the
years, including Values., Apple_Dude, Zo0LanDeR, and
Celestial_One. Despite the fact that Drew plays Snipers
infrequently, I think he is still a top tier player and I hope
he drops by more often. As far as sniping skill, Drew has the
ability to “go off” at any moment. If you give him any kind of
advantage, he will seize it immediately. He isn't the best
FS'er, but there is nothing else Drew does that doesn't rival or
exceed the other top snipers.

Rank 3, Bungie[SanD]
Bungie[SanD]: (Fearless.Sniper) 4th Generation, East. Total SSL:
78.
Bungie also known as Bungiemad123 has more recently become a top
tier sniper. He was around for the later part of the last big
time East clans led by Akino, Anima, and myself. I'm glad that
when East died, Bungie decided to check out Europe and help keep
Snipers alive. Although Bungie has never been an extremely
outspoken person, his play in games speaks for itself. Bungie is
the only player that received a 10 in consistency, and with good
reason. Every time Bungie plays everyone says the same thing:
“how the heck does he get the same score every time?” His scores
aren't just above average, either. Bungie is constantly at the
top of the scoreboard. He rarely loses a lock. His IQ is very
high, and he can play as a team or by himself effectively. If he
improves his FS'ing skill, he will be more unstoppable than he
already is. An adjustment period will certainly be required for
him to be as successful in the new maps simply due to his high
aggressiveness, but it shouldn't prove too difficult for Bungie
to adapt.

Consistency: 10. Efficiency: 9.
The number 2 ranking goes to Anima-
Anima-: (DF.Anima) 2nd Generation, East. Total SSL: 83.
I could write an essay about Anima. His real name is Dan, and
he's one of the best players of all time. I rated him 83 because
when he came back he wasn't quite as good as he was back in the
day. But don't be fooled, there has never been and I doubt there
ever will be anyone as good at pending windwalk than Anima. The
10 in solo skill goes to him, as well as the 10 for WW ability.
Anima led the iconic Clan DF, along with multiple other Snipers
clans throughout the years. To this day, I have never seen the
playerbase gravitate towards a figure the way they did Anima. He
was a hero and their leader. Anima has recently gone back into a
semi-retirement, but I hope he ends up visiting frequently.
Anima's locking ability and FS'ing ability leave much to be
desired, but it's that much more astounding that despite not
having those skills, his scores are always at the top. As good
as Anima is at playing alone, he is surprisingly average at
working with his team. Anima also gets a 10 for efficiency
because his records have been among the highest of all time. He
is one of the fastest WW lockers ever, and his knowledge
combined with his awareness have made him the most dangerous
player to hold a pend to date. Only the top FS'ers could kill
Anima single-handedly. Everyone else had to chain FS and work as
a team to somehow surround him. Watching Anima mature as a
person (and maturing alongside him myself) has been a real joy,
and he is one of my favorite people to talk to even today.

The top ranked sniper, Penguin[NiNjA]
Penguin[NiNjA]: (TheUltraSniper) 1st Generation, East. Total
SSL: 91.
I'll start of by saying that I did not rate myself. The 91 was
given to me by Plague. Celestial gave me a 90, so I figured I'd
take the 1 point and run. I'm not going to say much about
myself. I'm proud to have been here for 11 years now, and if you
want to learn more about me go read the History of Snipers that
I wrote. I am certainly not the best player of all time. Dan was
better than me back in the day, for certain. I've taught
probably 100+ players to snipe, and I'm proud of that too. Those
who know me, know what I'm about. They know what I stand for,
and that is the game of Snipers. I hope you all keep up the
great work you've been doing in reviving this community, and I
hope you enjoy the silly stuff I write/create. Thanks again
everyone.
