       Has anyone noticed it's raining?

       "Anytime there is a large amount of rainfall for an extended
       period of time, trees toppling can become a concern, especially
       if combined with wind."
       It's in the news!
       Lots of trees are toppling because of super saturated ground,
       thanks to heavy rainfall, as in the current hurricane season.
       When you have the underlying ground on our embankment dam
       already saturated from the hydrostatic pressure of the water
       column in the canal, the phreatic line between wet and dry soil
       will be altered considerably by heavy continual rains.
       
       Making things much worse it the tremendous weight of the
       Cottonwood trees, precariously balanced on the steep and
       slippery slopes. Sooner or later trees are likely to fail, and
       topple, taking a large chunk out of the embankment.
       Its a recipe for disaster.
