Based on Mike Caswell's latest post, maybe this recent "tree
rally" has opened the eyes of many in the Rochester area about
this Facebook group and their message. Maybe it even opened the
eyes of the groups two co-founders, after all Ms Maier went on
the local news and explained very well EXACTLY WHY the
Embankment Integrity Program is needed, pretty much agreeing
with the unsafe issue and inability to inspect dams.
Go review Channel 8 footage of the event, and see Ms. Maier's
statements.

The ECNA has had a few news organizations contact us, to argue
the "safety side" of repairing unsafe earthen embankments along
the canal, but we have refused. No one should have to "argue for
or try to defend, public safety", it's just not common sense.
Anything we have to say is right here, and we are only
supporting the safety statements made by our neighbor, the NYS
Canal Corporation.
Most likely that is the same reason why the NYS Canal
Corporation isn't saying anything more to this FB group, except
"Read the Embankment Integrity Manual, that your group asked
for, and the SEQR documentation included, then submit comments".
If the public simply refuses to believe they are in danger, and
the canal embankment work is trying to make them safer, nothing
else can be said to them, that will matter, people don't know,
what they don't know...
Any conversation with that Stop Group will not add value, or
change their minds, their leaders think for them.
The Canal Corporation will go about the business of fixing their
unsafe canal dam issues, and people, the general public, will
get used to the changes that they see, and also see those
changes were made for "safety's sake". It's already happened in
areas in the western canal, where dams are safe, barrier screens
are in, and grass covers the embankment slopes.
It's just a matter of time, no matter what you might hear on
Facebook. Lol.
