       Planned Protest Event is HUGE FLOP

       Despite all the Lawn Signs and rhetoric from the organisers,
       only about 50 people turned up at the event on The Great
       Embankment Park yesterday.
       When you consider the STCC founders tout that they have over 700
       members, and they mostly live within 10-15 miles of the park,
       you'd have expected many more people, even non members, to
       attend.
       So, what happened?
       We've been saying for a year or more, that we believe many
       people registered on their Facebook page have seen the light.
       Some might not like the idea of losing the trees, but they are
       accepting that, in the interests of saving people's lives, the
       trees have to go. Why are they still listed? I guess they like
       to see the banter, or simply can't be bothered to un-list.
       Our email to the news media made a huge impression and we think
       we shed a lot of light on the state of the embankment, their
       coverage was minimal, and some never touched this event.
       We also sent it out to several government officials, and it
       would appear many never showed up. Moehle and Bill Smith were
       there, but they have a lot to try to prop up, as they were the
       instigators of the court ordered SEQR event.
       It looks like this is the beginning of the end of the STCC.

       It should be obvious to most in that Facebook group by now,
       especially with the release of the more rigorous  State
       Environmental Quality Review Impact Statement, that canal
       embankments are unsafe, and nothing, not even denial by the
       group leaders can change that.
       Erie Canal Embankments will start to be cleared and made safe
       again soon, because that's what's best for Canal Neighbors and
       Patrons of the Erie Canal National Heritage Corridor...NYS Law
       demands it, and the SEQR work and Guidebook support it.
       You would think that the very idea of fighting a State run
       effort to IMPROVE safety of the canal, and safety for neighbors
       living below it would never be challenged by anyone who had
       common sense.
       Afterall, what's the downside of making Erie Canal Communities
       MORE safe?
