       NOTICE TO MARINERS
       UPDATE ERIE CANAL – LOCK E-29 (PALMYRA) TO LOCK E-30 (MACEDON)
       MAY 26, 2021
       
       The New York State Canal Corporation today announced that the
       navigation pool between Erie Canal Lock E-29 (Palmyra) and Lock
       E-30 (Macedon) continues to operate at a reduced depth. Vessels
       requiring less than five feet of draft can navigate this stretch
       of the Erie Canal until further notice.
       The Canal Corporation urges all users to register to receive
       updates through the “Notice to Mariners” notification program at
       www.canals.ny.gov.

       Mariners are advised that the Erie Canal from Lock E-29 in
       Palmyra to Lock E-30 in Macedon is closed due to maintenance
       operations until further notice.
       Updates will follow.

       Looks like the Support Embankment washout, that took out the old
       Aqueduct, is now causing the lowering of the Barge Canal water
       to "pre-1926" levels.
       Sadly the real story is in those last three words...
       Until Further Notice.
       Like, until further notice, consider that a 200 year old NYS
       Canal System had become a public safety issue due to normal
       deterioration, lack of proper maintenance and lack of full,
       thouough inspection.
       Or maybe...UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE: Consider that the NYS Canal
       System IS BROKEN, and please excuse the mess while the New York
       Power Authority repairs it.
