There's a new look to the ECNA Forum, find out what's changing.

---------------------------------------------------------
Regular ECNA members may have noticed the changes to our Forum
Discussion space already.
And the thousands of ECNA guests, who have frequented the Erie
Canal Neighbors Association Forum over the past 3 years and have
read posts on Forum Topic Boards ranging from Embankment
Integrity Work to Addressing Opposition to Earthen Dam Safety
and even our Penny Pincher Board, will certainly notice our
changes very soon... one of our most popular discussion boards
is going away.
Some of you may like the change being made, even welcome it,
others may not.
All that can be said is that Life moves on, along the Erie
Canal...and we all will learn to adjust with these ECNA changes
as well.
We have removed several of our Forum Board recently. Some of
them had become outdated as the Canal Corporation work has
continued along the NYS Empire Trail and Erie Canal. Some were
on Discussion Topics that have been resolved with work done by
the Canal Corporation on it's two main Embankment Improvement
efforts, the original Embankment Restoration Project (EERP), and
the new Embankment Integrity Program (EEIP).
Those two projects are now starting to continue in our area, so
stay tuned for more information on those here:
The list below details which Forum boards were removed from
view.

These discussion boards (and posts within) are still available
to ECNA FORUM MEMBERS by request. If for some reason you would
like to see what ECNA members discussed in these Boards feel
free to contact the ECNA Moderator and get temporary access to
review some of the past issues Erie Canal Neighbors faced. Some
of the information may also apply in the future, so the ECNA
will take a "gone but not forgotten" approach.
If needed, they're here for educational purposes.
Perhaps the other TWO Forum Boards that will be removed may
impact more of our current guests and future members, sorry in
advance, but it's time for both to go.
The ECNA governing body has decided, once again, to remove our
most popular ECNA Forum Discussion Board. That is The Opposition
to the Stop the Canal Clear-Cut Movement board, by far the most
posted and read discussion we have had. We'd like to extend our
gratitude to those that made this discussion board possible, we
will leave it at that.
Along with the STCC Board removal, the Perinton Community
Discussion Board will also be removed from general view. Both of
these Forum Boards had a purpose at one time, which like the
other aforementioned boards, these discussion have run their
course.
[attachimg=2]
The dis-information campaign waged against the NYS Canal
Embankment work on Facebook, and especially in the Fairport &
Perinton communities has been shown for what it is, a sham.
There is no "clear-cutting" going on along the Erie Canal as
some might suggest or claim.
But what is happening is a well managed dam safety program to
clear unsafe earthen embankments from harmful overgrowth and
hopefully prevent the collapse of these water impounding
structures that are more than 100 years old.
It's a public safety dam repair program, that is 125 miles long,
and stretches from west to east through New York State
The need to provide an opposing view to this Facebook group has
been met with this Erie Canal discussion Forum as well as our
main website and others that address safety for Erie Canal
Neighbors far and wide.

Just like the other 3 Forum Boards that are "gone but not
forgotten", these two related Opposition Forum Boards (and posts
within) are still available to ECNA FORUM MEMBERS by request. If
for some reason you would like to see what ECNA members
discussed in these Boards and what approach was taken by the
ECNA to fight against Opposition to Public Safety, feel free to
contact the ECNA Moderator and get temporary access to review
these very popular Forum discussions.
Thanks again for your support

ECNA Turnabout, Canal Bank Washout Prompts Changes
DIR By: Doug K

---------------------------------------------------------
Folks, there is only ONE Discussion Board on our Forum that
holds Post about a Facebook Group who's been opposing Earthen
Embankment Repair. If something happens that results in a need
to post something for the safety of the public, it usually ends
up in this board, because they continue to deny that any Erie
Canal safety issues exist.
This STCC Forum Board used to be a hidden discussion, for member
only viewing, to help canal neighbors in solving their own
"local oppostion" issues that may prevent them from getting
Earthen_Embankment Embankments repaired that are adjacent to
their properties. Knowing why people oppose the work, is also
the start of having the discussion to educate on dam safety and
why it matters more to neighbors living along than canal trail
users.
A canal bank washout in Macedon, yesterday, has promoted the
post you can read here... actually posted by the STCC group,
who's leadership and many of its members have stated "would
never happen".

In fact this groups mantra, by some of the Engineers in the
Group, as well as a few neighbors, has been this: "If it ain't
broke don't fix it". Well hopefully they can finally believe
that the Canal IS broken, and yes, the Canal Corporation will
now have to fix yet another aging water impounding structure.

Sadly, the ECNA actually did forecast something like this would
happen, the longer it took to make repairs to its many older
earthen embankment based water impoundments. And because of the
careless words of this Facebook group, that delay has now
resulted in this type of incident.
The Canal Corporation has been forced to delay their Embankment
Integrity work, and jump through SEQR hoops to get the program
restarted, all a result of this Facebook simple refusal to
believe public safety is an issue along the Erie Canal.
The STCC Forum Board will be open long enough for the general
public to review this latest incident. It will be closed again
without notice, and will again be open to ECNA Forum Members
ONLY.
Sorry in advance, to our members who may not like this Forum
Board open again. We have a few ex-STCC members who joined the
ECNA to get better results working with the Canal Corporation
than against them. I promise it will come down again, when the
moment is right.
