       A Little Piece of English Canal History.

       I thought you'd like to read this article regarding a little
       known canal system in the South of England.
       If you look at the map, you'll see a little branch line to a
       town called Calne, which is where I was born.
       The Wharf is still there, but the. canal to Chippenham was just
       a bed of cattails. I think they are cleaning it out now, which
       would be a childhood dream of mine come true.
       Calne has a big connection with New York. It was the Harris
       Company, that came to an exposition in the early 1800s to
       Saratoga Springs, and learned of a way to cure bacon using ice,
       instead of salt. They called it Wiltshire Sweetcure Bacon, a
       much more pleasant experience that the heavily brined barrel
       pork.
       I loved walking and fishing these canals as a child, and I guess
       thats why I enjoy the Erie Canal. It's good to see that people
       all over the world appreciate these engineering feats.
