       POVERTY IN FAIRPORT. 23% of Fairport School District on
       subsidized or free lunches

       It would appear that the number of school children in Fairport
       Schools receiving subsidized or free lunches has more that
       doubled in the past ten years. The rise from 12% to 23%
       coincides with a rise in school, Town and Village taxes have
       risen approx 30% during this time period.
       Hmmm!  Could we be our own worst enemies?  Isn't this a case of
       robbing Peter to pay Paul?
       Maybe if the taxes weren't so out of control here, most of these
       families would not have to bear the stigma of being classified
       as living below the poverty level?
