The Great Embankment may be the East Side's Biggest Threat

Here's a nice article on the challenges the Great Embankment
created for Canal builders posted to the Lockport Journal
  HTML https://www.lockportjournal.com/archives/erie-canal-discovery-the-great-embankment/article_578b842a-7da5-5642-b343-35943298f552.html
This man-made canal embankment is one of the longest & tallest
on the Canal System and has earth dams on both sides of the
canal making this area twice as dangerous for those living below
       them.
Not sure why a story like this wasn't posted in the Eastside
news outlets, seems something the Fairport & Pittsford people
should be concerned about, especially if they are overgrown with
trees like those in the western end of the canal system.
Good read, and a big safety concern for many.

Really? I saw this one with no issues..Thanks to Erie Canaller
for finding & posting this article.
This will help if you get a message popup to buy..you can close
       that after a few seconds.

Have to ask why some in Perinton & Fairport would debate the
semantics of what issues have caused what floods, but certainly
we can all agree that a "weak link" in what has already been
termed an unsafe dam is something NONE of wants to be talking
about AFTER another flood happen, right?
If clearing Erie Canal Embankments also removes the possibility
of another future flood conversation from happening, the
question should be Why not clear the Unsafe Dams? Don't ya think
that about sums this all whole thing up?

The last line of the story should be what makes all of Perinton
       take note:
Water flooded into Bushnell’s Basin and devastated many homes
before the guard gates could be closed.
It really doesn't matter if a culvert breaks opens or a tree
causes a breach on the Erie Canal. The fact is a canal flood,
that would release hundreds of millions of gallons of water
should be avoided at all costs.
The fact that the Canal Corporation is even talking about
possibility of floods & loss of human life should make us all
think carefully about what to do, and it it would be wise to not
simple say unsafe dams are a hoax.
