       New Updates on the Holley North Dam Restoration
   DIR By: Doug K

       Here's a synopsis of the work being done in Holley, NY... thank
       you STCC for posting new photos
       [attachimg=1]
       So the Embankment Section outlined in this STCC post would
       qualify under the latest National Dam Safety Program Act of 2006
       as a Dam.
       And in case you are wondering... this dam section holds back
       approximately 21 MILLION gallons of water... and it's on TWO
       side of the Erie Canal.
       [attachimg=2]
       Here's the map of the section being discussed here... notice
       the area to the south called Holley Falls... which is not
       natural as all... part of the Erie Canal waterway

       By Jove! I do believe she's got it!
       At last - at last Ms Agte has seen the light! She declares -
       "IT LOOKS LIKE A DAM!"

       Well done! Do you know why it looks like a dam Lizzy? That's

       It looks like there are two dams in this spot and both must go
       over Sandy Creek East Branch. That's a bigger stream in this
       area from the looks of it.
       I still see trees along the trail here so once grass is growing
       it will look pretty good I think. Actually looks like they did a
       really nice job smoothing out the slope, does anyone know if
       they changed the angle of the bank?
       Thanks for sharing, looks like what the Canal folks said it
       would. It is a dam.

       I'm trying to find where I saw this or heard this little Erie
       Canal tidbit
       The Great Embankment in Pittsford is the largest earthen type
       dam on the canal, but not the highest. That I heard belongs to
       the Town of Holley. I seem to remember the GE was 73' and Holley
       was 78' tall, but not nearly as wide as the Great Embankment at
       5280' wide.
       I am not sure where it is though, have ask the CC., Canal
       Corporation.
