Another Embankment Sinkhole Emergency Repair in Greece NY

Just like clockwork, every Spring when the New York State Canal
Corporation fills the large pools between Buffalo & the
Seneca-Erie junction, there's almost always a new "sinkhole"
discovered along the Erie canal Trail built on the earthen
embankments that create a third of the NYS Canal System. NYSCC
has just released this notice about a new "embankment failure"
in the Greece Canal Park area.

You can follow the source of this post back to the Canal
Corporation’s Facebook page, lots of comments about the repair
made, and also the issues still plaguing the Durhamville Canal
area, with still another breach in that aqueduct. Seems like
once again the age of the Erie Canal system is showing it's age
and the Canal folks are back to "reactive maintenance" instead
of doing proper earthen dam repairs through their own Earthen
Embankment Integrity Program.
Watch the video on Facebook.

For some reason the Facebook post has been REMOVED!!??
So that's an interesting turn of events... maybe the NYSCC is
trying to avoid negative press again regarding their inability
to manage the flooding in the Finger Lakes Canal Stretch, and
also these continued issues with unsafe embankments starting to
leak & fail.
Its not a matter of IF the Erie Canal will cause a flood, and
most likely loss of life & property, but WHEN & WHERE it will
happen.
And when it happens NYS Officials will remind the public they
were given "Constructive Notice" about how unsafe the NYS Canal
System has become, and the Facebook public sued them to stop all
work repairing 100 year old earthen dams.
"Don't Blame us, we tried to fix the Erie Canal" will be a quote
heard often.
