Canal Corporation Repair work to begin in Monroe, Niagara,
       Orleans & Oneida Counties

The NYS Canal Corporation has recently updated their website
with upcoming Autumn repair work for the Erie Canal Trail &
Waterway. You can find the information on their website here:
  HTML https://www.canals.ny.gov/Trails/Canalway-Trail-Alerts
It appears to be a mix of safety repairs to Culvert & Trails,
along with another section of Earthen Embankment repair in
Monroe County. In some cases the Empire State Trail will be
closed for use while construction activities are ongoing. All
work is slated to be done starting late October, continuing for
       weeks or months.
Perhaps the most significant construction activities will be in
Monroe County, wirh a trail detour near the University area for
some much needed embankment clearing. The NYSCC has a small
write up of activities and a map posted to show where clearing &
grabbing will occur. There is also a Google Maps detour posted.

Checking on the Empire State Trail Closure page there's another
section of the Empire Trail System that is being evaluated in
Madison County, which may affect Trail traffic. This one is
in-between Canasota & Chittenango, with another earthen
       embankment being assessed for repairs.

As stated, this repair work started in the summer and may still
be affecting EST Trail use. Updates will follow as we get them

Still more "Empire Trail work" ongoing in the Rochester area
that will detour normal canal towpath traffic on to local
roadways. Grubbing vegetation away from the trail & embankments,
fortifying trail entry bollards, and clearing away other safety
       concerns is on the agenda.

continues in Monroe Phase 2 - Buffalo Rd

Looks like more grubbing & clearing work along the Westside of
the Erie Canal is started. It's Phase 2 (of an unspecified
number of "phases") that is clearing in preparation for future
restoration work is about all the detail found for this. Looks a
bit like the EEIP program, NYPA's own Embankment Integrity
Program, is reaching a point where the "goats are done" and
trees are now the most problematic "invasive species" along
       these raised earthen water impoundments.
Here's a map of the affected area, between Buffalo Rd & Chili
       Avenue.
