Goats!

On the local news tonight, there was an article regarding
clearing vegetation from the canal embankments! Apparently the
canal corporation has sections fenced off, and a small herd
goats are feasting on the shrubs and scrub. They intend to move
the fencing once the goats have cleared an area.
Such a good idea! Once these areas are clear, I think they'll
find many more seeps. Hopefully the idea will reach Fairport
where the goats will have fun climbing the steep slopes.

Well this is a new phase for the Canal Corporation's Earthen
Embankment Integrity Program it appears from the many videos
that can be found online about "goatscaping".
Some prominent NYS Canal Employees are discussing how the ground
vegetation is being cleared by some local "rent-a-goat" farms
who use a dozen or so goats to clear small areas of steeper
embankments... focus right now is in the Greece NY area, just
west of Rochester.
Not Scapegoating, it's goat-scaping.
Here's a video from a local farm who's involved with this
effort.

And another story hit Spectrum news... with still more video.

And of course some local nutbag social media group, who
apparently believes their little Facebook group somehow controls
all NYS Canal Corporation policy, has jumped right in to take
credit for this work... the whole thing was "their idea" they
say.

I agree with you Mike... its a VERY clever way for the NYS Canal
crew to clear embankments, and stay on the "good side" of people
like Ms Agte, Ms Maier and Ms. Gouldthorpe of NC.
Before you know it the seeps & deficiencies will be uncovered on
these embankments and it will be time to get busy taking more
TREES down and repairing these 100 year old earthen dams.
I suppose the Canal Corporation will be looking to unionize some
hungry BEAVERS who will be tasked with felling trees, trimming
branches and making lots of wood chips for some other animals to
come along and pick up afterwards...
Maybe a human or two might even get involved again now that Ms
Agte's Facebook Fans have given their approval of the change to
the original Embankment Program, known as EEIP.
It's now time for a change to EEGIP... Earthen Embankment Goat
Integrity Program
Can't wait to see what happens when a goat bites a NYS employee
or some Empire Trail users gets zapped by the ELECTRIC fence
that the farmer's said they use to keep goats penned in & other
amimals out.
Maybe someone from the NYSCC "circus" should contact Barnum &
Bailey to inquire about some elephants to move those really big
Cottonwood tree trunks... save those beavers some time.
I say move 100 hungry, screaming goats to Fairport and see how
people like that out in their neighborhood. I bet everyone there
suddenly starts screaming NIMBY... Not In MY Back Yard
