Reflections on the Erie Canal - New documentary series on PBS
   DIR By: Doug K
       Date: April 14, 2025, 2:59 pm

This is a new series of videos being produced and aired on
public broadcasting stations locally, called Relections on The
       Erie Canal.

The main focus of each video of this series is to show the
affect of the Erie Canal on early America, well beyond the
simple commercial transportation & shipping of goods & people.
The Erie Canal shaped both New York State & the rest of the
country with ground-breaking ideas and a vastly improved
"communication highway". News & newspaper publishing traveled
just as fast as the goods being g moved on barges, it would be
equivalent to the internet of today, but an early19th century
       version.
The first 5 minute video released on April 12, it's Reflection
is on how the Erie Canal was instrumental in creating the first
       Civil Engineering College in America.

It's worth a look if you want a different view of how a single
idea could shape a nation, like the idea of America becoming an
"independent" nation, instead of just being another "colony" of
England. There are at least 10 videos in the series planned, but
perhaps more will follow as viewers share their ideas &
       thoughts.
