       First 2025 Notice to Erie Canal Mariners - Lower Water Levels
       Again

       The very first Erie Canal Notice to Mariners was released
       today, it's another year of reduced Erie Canal water levels,
       which affects boaters and homeowners with docks on the waterway.
       Sadly the Canal Corporation is content on this "quick fix" for
       its failing earthen dams, instead of actually clearing the trees
       & invasive vegetation from their property that is causing the
       leakage.

       And once again the NYS Canal Corporation couldn't be any more
       clear about the reason for the reduced levels, leaking earthen
       Canal embankments that have been designated as a potential flood
       hazard.
       The adjustment in water levels is directly attributable to the
       Canal Corporation’s efforts to monitor and manage known seeps
       along the canal’s earthen embankments.

       Perhaps it's time for the public to start asking WHEN the
       problems will be fixed, instead of accepting the fact that very
       soon the water levels will all be reduced even MORE, as muskrats
       carve out even more tunnels & burrows that result in more
       seeps... all one to two feet lower than their last homes.
       Maybe it's time for some NYS Towns to stop fighting the repair
       of these earthen embankments as well, like Perinton, Fairport,
       Pittsford & Brighton who all support "not fixing" this public
       safety problem with Erie Canal infrastructure.
