       Erie - The Canal that Made America

       This was sent to us from an Erie Neighbor on the western end of
       the NYS Canal System. It's a great 55 minute video, from PBS of
       course, about the influence of the Erie Canal on New York State,
       as well as the entire country.
       If you take the time to view this remember this single fact...
       The Erie Canal is broken, it's falling apart due to many years
       of improper oversight and cost saving measures that ignored
       routine maintenance & inspections.
       The Canal Sysyem, especially miles of raised earthen
       embankments, has been identified by major State Agencies,
       including the NYS Comptroller's office and The New York State
       Canal Corporation, as a  NY state asset in disrepair, to the
       point of being a PUBLIC SAFETY concern now.
       If you value the history of the Erie Canal, and want to see it
       preserved for generations to come, we are asking that you
       support the Erie Canal Embankment Integrity work when it comes
       to your town or neighborhood. NYS has finally found an agency
       that will repair the waterway, and drive it forward so it's safe
       & sustainable for the next century of its life, that's it's
       current overseer, the New York Power Authority, and the reformed
       NYS Canal Corporation
       Do not be fooled by those in the community trying to distract
       from the public safety message by stating the canal is a natural
       waterway.
       Don't fall for the " environmental" ploy that trees growing on
       earthen dams are "safe" and should stay for the aesthetic
       beauty.
       The Canal Corporation has been clear, the trees growing on Canal
       Embankments are compromising Canal Integrity, and causing issues
       with safety for many towns & villages. These are the words from
       experts on all things regarding Canal safety.
       Do not listen to the opinions of those on social media sites
       like Facebook and Nextdoor who value opinions & myths of their
       membership instead of facts & data provided by those who are
       experts in civil engineering and hydrology.
       Take a look at the video, enjoy the show, support the efforts to
       FIX this 200 year old idea, that formed our Nation.
