       What's going on in Orleans County?

       This announcement came out on Sunday from the NYS Canal
       Corporation,  a body seen floating in the Erie shut down all
       canal traffic in the area, for about a day. This NTM has since
       been recinded, and traffic is flowing again.
       Next Wednesday the Erie Canal closes for the season, and it
       can't come soon enough for the Canal Corporation, who has enough
       problems with keeping the canal safe & operational. If it's not
       unsafe embankments,  it's now a problem with floating bodies.

       Note that local law enforcement has stated there's nothing
       suspicious about this death, and a body floating in the canal,
       pending the autopsy. Correct me if I'm wrong but a body in the
       waterway should be suspicious,  especially if there's no
       watercraft involved. Was it someone using the trail that somehow
       ended up in the water?
       We will all have to wait to see how this plays out, but it's a
       bit troubling to say the least.

       Now it would seem that any dead body,  floating anywhere in the
       navigable waters of NY State, would raise just a "little
       suspicion" but not in Orleans County for some reason. I would
       think that making a statement like that might be a little
       premature, or maybe even unwarranted. Why is that you ask? Why
       should this incident raise just a little suspicion?
       Well, because this is the SECOND dead body found floating in
       Orleans County waters, in approximately the same stretch of the
       Erie Canal, in the past 3 months. Not sure why, but it would
       seem that there should be something "suspicious" just because of
       the statistical odds of these two events happening so close in
       both location & timing. TWO bodies floating, in just barely over
       TWO months, when there hasn't been anything like this in
       years... yea, just a bit odd.
       Here's another story from late July 2024, another dead body
       found in the Erie, in Orleans County.

       Suspicious, maybe not according to the local law enforcement,
       but any Engineer will tell you that statistically this is a big
       "red flag" that something is not quite right. These two towns
       are next to each other on the Erie system, the locations of the
       bodies found were about 3 1/2 miles apart.

       We will follow up on this post once the authorities work through
       their investigation, which may take awhile as local law
       enforcement isn't concerned enough to call these any more than a
       "coincidence" no doubt. "Nothing to see here folks... move
       along"
